Red Light Camera Locations

I have loaded the red light poi to my Garmin Nuvi 350. Should I see icons on the screen where they are located? What will the unit do when I approach one of the locations?

Thanks for your help. John

You should get an alarm when you approach the intersection (about 1/4 mile ahead).

Red Light

Thanks for the reply. Will the alarm be a speach warning or chime. Are there icons on the screen to indicate locations of cameras?

Thanks John

Initially it will be like a

Initially it will be like a "ding" sound, however if you wanted a voice associated with that file, then create an .mp3 with the same file name except the extension would natually be different, but it has to be the exact name the .csv is named. You can go to this link:
http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and type in text that you desire to create a .wav file, then convert it to a .mp3 file and again name it the same as the RedLight-Camera.csv file only with a .mp3 extension and then have that file in the same folder as your other poi's and load with POI loader.

Updated Red Light POI File

I just purchased my first GPS device and am about am interested in purchasing the Red Light Enforcement POI. Does my $5.00 fee include any updates as they occur?

Thanks

You can download the file up

You can download the file up to 3 times in the next 30 days from purchase. I update the file every week, usually on Wednesday.

Speed Cameras

This looks like a great site. I'm glad I discovered it. Does the red light POI also include speed cameras? There is at least one in DC on 16th Street.

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm in the DC area

Yeah, I'm in the DC area too, and Montgomery County is installing speed cameras this month. I'm not so worried about the red light cameras but the speed cameras would be worth knowing about.

I think that both alerts

I think that both alerts would be helpful.

I know some people use the alerts as a way to speed and get away with it.

But I agree with the line of thought, that they keep you aware of your surroundings. In my case, it make me a more alert and aware driver.

Tim

I was surprised how well this worked ...

Driving in DC the other day went it got triggered. Not only does it "ding" out it's warning, but the green directional bar becomes red as the type warns you about the camera. Very cool. (And appreciated.)

Red Light Warning

When the warning appears at the top of my unit (Garmin C340) there is some code that appears at the end of the line. Is it a reference to something? Is it supposed to be telling me where the camera is?

Thanks.

Data at end of line for Red Light

paulmama wrote:

I believe the data you are referring to is the date of the RedLight file you are viewing. Miss POI put's that information in so that you know which version of the file you are working with.

Identification of Red Light Cameras

Is there a post, link or webpage that describes how one can identify a Red light camera?

Do a search on Red Light

Do a search on Red Light Camera, quite a bit of discussion on how to determine if the intersection is displaying a camera.

Updates

How often do you update the red light camera POI? Since I paid for the initial download, can I download the updates for free or do I have to keep paying for each update?

Thanks!

Red Light Camera Voice Alert

I have followed NickJr's instructions for adding a voice to the alerts. I created an MP3 file (same name as .csv except for extension) and stored it in the same folder as the .csv file. I loaded it to my Nuvi 350 using the POI loader. I just get the ding sound. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you,
John

Did you put the .csv and

Did you put the .csv and .mp3 file into the same folder and have the poi loader load from that folder?

Yes. I created a folder on

Yes. I created a folder on my desktop called POI Info and put both files into it. I then popinted the POI loader to that folder.

thanks

Double check

Double check everything,

Check both file names, they have to be exact. Redlight_Camera.csv and Redlight_camera.mp3 will not work properly.

Also make sure you dont have your files named with double extensions, something like Redlight_Camera.csv.csv and Redlight_Camera.mp3.mp3
Because then your mp3 would have to be Redlight_Camera.csv.mp3 to work....Double extensions are never good...Don't do it!

Voice Alert

GRRRRRR, I have done everything I can think of to get my C330 to give both voice and chime as is discussed in this thread. NO LUCK!

I have done the recording of the voice as directed by Nickjr and have converted the file to .mp3. I have verified that the file name is EXACTLY the same as the .csv file and have moved the voice file to the folder where the other POIs are stashed.

Any other suggestions? Am I wasting my time with a C330?

C330 - no MP3 Player

You're out of luck. Sorry.

According to Garmin's web-site, you cannot do MP3's on the streetpilot C330. Hope this link helps and works. Otherwise just do a search on their site.

Speed traps location

I know a few speed trap locations which I save it on my GPS's favorites. I want to share it but I don't know how to upload it. Does anyone knows how?

One method is to use Mapsource and under the "transfer" tab, download from your GPS. The favorites are turned into Waypoints in Mapsource. You can then save them as a .gpx file.

Hey Nick,
thanks for posting the link to AT&T. I went over and had lots of fun trying different lines and voices. Settled on "Lauren" saying...
"Hey goofball... pay attention... there is a red light camera ahead!" Saved it. Converted it to a mp3. And added it to my red light POI file along with a custom bmp. Now, everytime she warns me... it brings a smile to my face!

I live in Montgomery County too (Gaithersburg) and in my part of town they've started using speed cameras mounted on vans. These vans are parked in different places everyday so there's no way to know ahead of time where they will be.

i installed the red light poi's and added an mp3 with it... it's just awesome! but there are places in philly where it says there are cameras but makes no sense to have them there. it must make sense to those crazy city engineers that designed the roads in center city heh.
