Garmin is the greatest

I know it's been said many times in the past, but I am now a believer. My 14-month old nuvi 660 stopped acquiring satellites a week ago. I upgraded the firmware, tried all the easy stuff, finally called Garmin. They had me do a hard reset, no change. They gave me an RMA, I immediately sent the 660 to them. I got a "newly overhauled" unit back yesterday. Runs great! Loaded all my favorites, POI's, extra maps, music, jpg's... everything works perfect, even the traffic receiver!

Good Ole Garmin

I've had very good luck with Garmin and tech support. Maybe it was luck but I would like to believe they are a decent company.

Garmin is Tops

I started with a Street Pilot and still have it. Went to a 360, then a 660 and now to a 780. Had problems with the 360, Garmin replaced it after we couldn’t get it straight. Had problems with the 780 after that disastrous software upgrade. Worked with one of their Mac techs and again we couldn’t get it right, so they replaced that too. POI factory is good for lots of things, but there are times one should call Garmin. If it’s going to be a problem, the sooner we let Garmin know the sooner it will be fixed. Lots of good advice here. But again, when it comes to serious operational problems, Garmin should be contacted as quickly as possible. Thanks to all of you here who have helped me from time to time.

660s on eBay

There are a few folks selling reconditioned 660s on eBay -- I recently picked up another one.

If you use a free sniping service such as:

http://www.gixen.com/

you can set your max price and set it to bid on a number of auctions, grouped so when you win one, all the other snipes get cancelled. This is a good strategy when there's a seller with a lot of auctions for the same thing (like reconditioned 660s).

cheers--

Hi korndogg27. Just wondering how your uncles Tom-Tom sucked, compared to the Garmin.

Garmin

I have the garmin 680 and love it. My MSN sub. is up now though and i don't know if it's worth the 140 lifetime fee.

Yeh, Greastest for awhile only

I got very bad impression from them after webupdate.

Software isn't always perfect

As a Raymarine beta tester, I know that sometimes stuff slips throught the cracks because of the requirement to get the software out the door.

The same I believe applies to Garmin. While a glitch may come through with a software update, based upon past performance, I'm confident that Garmin will fix it ASAP.

And I've ALWAYS been happy with their customer service. I have had to call them a few times over the past 10+ years.
