Nüvi 310/360/370 Firmware V5.0

The only change this claims, is the mystical "Enhance compatibility with PC applications".

I'm just about to email Garmin, and ask them to explain what this is - and also to confirm that this update can be removed again, should it introduce problems.

My 310 is out of warranty and after the 7xx debacle, there's no way I'm risking having two units that don't work properly...

Let me just ask, how is

Let me just ask, how is everyone getting to the wedupdater page you have a link too from the main garmin page?

.

You install webupdater on your computer. Here's a link to the webupdater page. http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/

Yeah I know that but let me

Yeah I know that but let me ask you this can you go to garmin.com and navigate to that update link he has posted? I can't seem to.

I had no problem getting to the linked page, but it only gives you the history of the updates and the reason for this one. If you plug the gps into your computer and run webupdater, it will find the update. And the page makes it clear that you need bebupdater to do the update.

I checked (and re-checked) the link - it does work. There's no necessity for you to "go to garmin.com" first though - it's a fully-qualified URL.

If you want to download the update manually (and bypass Webupdater), it lives here:
arrow http://www8.garmin.com/software/nuvi310_360_370_WebUpdater__...
(you would have to rename it to \Garmin\GUPDATE.GCD)

I wouldn't recommend you do that though; in fact, I wouldn't recommend that you install the update at all, until we know what it actually does and if it can be removed, if it doesn't work.

I've had a reply from Garmin, but it doesn't answer the questions I asked. Information regarding the one documented change ("Enhance Compatibility with PC applications"), is apparently proprietary...

The answer to my 2nd question was: "we only support the most current software that is available." (In other words, not an answer to my question!). I'll try again...

Should I laugh, or cry?

Apparently 1st line support are not told about these type of changes. They don't know whether the update is removeable or not. I'm making a working assumption that it's not, until proved otherwise.

I was asked a question though: "May I ask is there a reason
for testing our software, are you a beta tester?"

Someone remind me...why is that I don't trust Garmin's software to be right first-time?... rolleyes

...no problems on Nuvi 370

I updated one of my Nuvi 370's and it navigates well - turn notices are timely - and without lag. ....do not know if bluetooth is affected as I do not use the feature.

Huh

Phil, what software problems are you referring to? I've never heard of a Garmin software bug.

Garmin, like Microsoft, only produces error-proof software and devices.

I can't believe you would question the honor and integrity of Garmin. I am shocked.

Another reply...

I explained why I wanted to test their update (namely the fiasco with the Nüvi 7xx) and got a response.

"...(stuff about the 7xx snipped)...
Currently, as far as I know, that particular update for that particular series is the only one that can't be backdated
"

Now if it hadn't contained the phrase "as far as I know", I would have been reassured...

Personally I won't be updating my 310 unless they specifically mention that they have fixed some of the known bugs, or in the highly unlikely event of some major new functionality being added.

I can guarantee you would, if you managed to load the 310/360/370 firmware on it smile

(The 300/350 uses different firmware!)

Update

Unfortunately I am getting the feeling that we are only going to know about all the REAL changes to the 3xx update when things start going wrong and we can not get answers.

Garmin 310 losing poi alert

Garmin 310 losing poi alert after web update to v5.
Hi, I am new here.

I connected web update to v5 & now all my proximity alert on the poi are gone. I did check the setting & reload the new poi files but none work.

The navigation voice still work & mp3 files still working fine.

Anyone have any idea on this?

Very disappointed & email garmin support & yet to receive any reply.

When was last time you did the update?

I got that problem when they came out version 4 somthing. Then the only way to fix it is to convert the mp3 to wav file in order it to work.

Poi alert missing

If I am not wrong, my previous version was 4.60, a few months back.

Could u elaborate on which mp3 files that i need to convert. I download poi with wav file from www.malsingmaps.com (for 2xx) but also still the same.
I still waiting for Garmin reply. Their 3-day bench mark does not seem to work now.

The Type of support you would expect from GARMIN

This is one of the risk when you do webupdate with Garmin. Dont update & they back & said support only latest version, updated & think gone wrong & no support. What a joke.

Following the contact & wasting freight charges to send the unit from Singapore to Garmin Taiwan, they come back & said the POI was not created by Garmin & does not provide support for that.

I had previously send them the files & was confirmed that the POI files are working fine & hence send the unit to them to investigate.

Dont waste money with Garmin if you can find similar product on the market. There are so many brands now a day.

"Could you check your .gpi files under Garmin folder? (Are .gpi files broken or missing?) And if possible, you can send your .gpi files to us.
We may help you check the files....."

"We had tested the POI file you sent on our unit. The poi alert can speak out normally. I think the problem you are experiencing will require your
unit to come into Garmin for examination....."

"We are sorry that we have no ideas how the POIs are created by users from www.malsingmaps.com. The POIs from the website are not Garmin software, so we have no ways to provide our support for this. We've tested your device and all functions work properly. Per your case, we may send the device back to you."
