Another GPS use for stupid people(me)

Well, after the 3rd occurance of me arriving at work and suddenly saying to myself "Self, did you remember to close the garage door when you left?", a light bulb illuminated above my head. Not a huge one, but...

So now I have a GPS alert 200 ft from the house saying what else, 'Did you close the garage door, meatbag?'

(luckily it was closed every time, but I had to bug my neighbors each time with a phone call.)

Return trip

Now you need to add one for when you come back home that says 'Did you open the garage door, meatbag' so you don't crash through it.

Or another one that asks you if you have a bike on top of your car on the rack (if you have one of course).
Great idea!

Haha.. Does it actually

Haha.. Does it actually work for you? I think I'd just get desensitized to it.

I have had a close call

Jon and I had a set of lawn chairs strapped to the top of our minivan last summer and we forgot they were up there when we went to pull into the garage.

Luckily there was very minimal scratches to the van and no damage to the garage.

Miss POI

Most important of all !!!!

At 50 feet out of the garage one that says "Did I kiss the dog and pet the wife?" smile

garage door

Yeah, that is a good idea. I don't know how many times I drove back to my house to check if the garage door was closed... it was closed every time.

OK, Question............

How do I set my GPS to make announcements at certain points? rolleyes

Making noise - or is that POIs?

You will need a sound file with the announcement and a custom POI.

Create the POI by having the longitude and latitude of the trigger point as the first two entries and a name as the third AT A MINIMUM. Save the file as a CSV or Comma Separated Variable file in your custom POI file on the computer. Create the sound file and save the proper format with EXACTLY THE SAME NAME in the file as well.

Use POI Loader to reload all your custom POI and the alert will be on your device. Be certain to load them using MANUAL so you can set the trigger distance or speed.

I always watch

my garage door close. On a few occasions I pushed the button seen the door start down then drive away, only to have the door open back up because something got in the way of closure. rolleyes

Glad you said it, not me

"They also found that among leisure activities, reading, playing board games, playing musical instruments, and dancing were associated with a reduced risk of dementia!"

Does creating custom POI count?

Not Alzheimers, but it's preliminary cousin, Halfheimers, where you forget half the things you should remember. wink

.

But you know it's bad when you always watch it go all the way down, then three miles down the road, can't remember if you watched it go down or not. I guess that's just how it is a 5 am.

Not so stupid....

You can't be stupid if you thought of such a smart use...Going to set mine up to do the same thing...

Usually, I think about the garage door when I am at least 5 minutes away from home...And yes, I have turned back to check more than once.

Automatic?

Now we all need to start asking for a GPS that includes a Garage Door Open/ Close feature so it is automatic...

A Whole New Use for GPS

I can see it now. As you're driving by the store on the way home, you hear, "Please stop to pick up some bread and milk." or whatever basic staples or sundry goods your family may need. shock

Of course, the spouse could sneak one on there, so as you're driving by your favorite fast food place, or donut shop, you hear, "Don't even think of stopping here, we're having dinner soon!" surprised

I could also think to add the florist or candy shop in there, but then, she'd wonder what I did wrong... redface

Seriously though, it's a good idea for things like the garage door, or other such notes.
