Program to Customize TTS Voices

If you've ever wanted to modify your TTS voice file, here's an easy program http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/TTSVoiceEditor

I tested it on my 750 and it works perfectly. I finally got rid of the annoying "recalculating"!!

SOUND PREVIEW??

Just like to know of there is any way to "PREVIEW" the customized voices before loading to my gps??? question

No preview possible!

TTS voices use a voice engine embedded in the VPM. There is no way I can emulate this on a computer.

Oh Well

crying Thanks any way for this wonderful program!!!

Turn right at Smith Street and then turn left

Super program to modify some of the TTS instructions! Thanks!

Questions:

(1) Any way to modify it so that instead of Jill saying "Turn right at Smith Street AND THEN TURN LEFT" to just saying "Turn right at Smith Street"?

(2) Why does the TTS text also include "weather", "sunny", "rain", etc.? Is it because the TTS file is the same for all Garmins and some Garmins announce periodic updates of the weather forecast?

Preview of TTS

I have put what I want to hear into "ready to navagate"
Then after power up press and hold speach button. Then I can preview without driving.

laugh out loud

Why would you remove that?

I'm curious - why would you want to remove that? It's very often the only advance notice you get that there is another turn coming up right away after you make the current turn.

My Nuvi 265WT has a glitch perhaps?

My Nuvi 265WT has a glitch perhaps because the Jill announcement that there was another turn coming up right away was actually some fair distance down the street and not almost right away. If I turned left right away like Jill told me, I would have ended up in somebody's driveway or a side street that wasn't intended as the right away turn,

If I could remove that I could still look at the map screen and see the distance being counted down until the actual next turn can be executed. Perhaps I need a firmware update? My "new" Nuvi 265WT shows 2008 maps even though I had updated them when I registered the unit.

Worked like a charm. . .

Very, very, cool, and extremely easy to do, Turbo; wonderful work, thank you!

Just changed a number of phrases for Karen (aus) on my 760 (vers 3.0):

10-continue - keep on truckin
22-turn right - hang a ralph
23-turn left - hang a louie
27-When possible, make a u-turn. - Oh, for crying out loud, turn the fook around.
43-on right - to starboard
44-on left - to port
57-Ready to navigate. - Alright, let's get a move on!
67-Off route - oh sh*t, heading for the woods
68-recalculating - awrighty then, lets try your route
70-Lost satellite reception. - Its fooking dahk in here.
83-enter roundabout - What is this, New England?
93-Please drive to highlighted route. - Okay, it is time to rock and roll!

I've only tested one or two, as I'm in ND and it's ten below zero and darker outside than the inside of a boot, but I'll check the rest tomorrow. I'm interested to see what change in inflection the periods and exclamation points have, as the originals are in either phrases, or sentences with capitalization and periods.

Simulate

I hope you are not planning to actually drive the routes; that is what "Simulate" is for.

sweet!

I can't wait to give this a try. I changed the 'recalculating' to: "Hey! Focus, Focus. Now lets see if we can get back on course."

Hope its not too long. we'll see...

Driving routes or "simulate". . .

Ha - actually I had better things to do this evening than sit and simulate, though I did run through a few quick tests via simulation, and all worked like expected.

I spend sooo much time on the road driving--I'm breaking 400,000 miles this week in my 6.5 turbo-diesel Chevy Express--that the real test for functionality in real time and conditions, for voice volume, time delay, accuracy, etc. is being out on the road.

So, yeah, 'actually driving the routes' is all part of it for me, as I'm driving the routes anyway. From here in Fargo ND I go to Dickinson ND, then to Billings MT, then to Casper WY, and then on to Boulder CO, where I will spend a few weeks.

After that, who knows.

Very cool to be able to have more control over the voice prompts.

TTS_Speech_Doctor_V046 error

I get the following error.
Please advise.
(See link for jpg of error)

http://www.independentgirls.net/images/TTSSDerror.jpg

Missing OCX file

This is not normally the file that is missing, but you can search google for the exact file name.

Copy it to C:\windows\system32
Then press the windows start button and click on run
type "regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\TABCTL3N.OCX" and click OK.

You should be good to go. Alternatively, you may try just to put it in the same directory as TTS_Voice_Doctor.

Punctuation

I put exclamation points in one of my commands but it didn't make a difference.

Worked!

I noticed it depends on the language used and sometimes the word that precedes the !

I finally got my 340

I finally got my 340 upgraded! Thanks for all of the help in the thread with how to do that one! I love it when someone hears my GPS say something and they can't believe what they just heard - Thanks Turbo!

A thought for a funny April Fool's Day

I can't wait to be April Fool's Day. I am going to edit my wife's GPS and change all directions information.

Instead of "Turn left", it will say "Turn right" and the same for the other direction. I will also change "Recalculating" by "What is hapenning Honey? Can't make your left from your right?"

LOL!

Are you going to also write what you want on your tomstome after she gets through with you. Wrong person to play that kind of joke on. But sounds like fun anyway. laugh out loud

This is sweet

This is a very fun tool. Jill doesn't to Homer's D'oh! very well, but everything else has worked great.

TTS Voices

I found a site courtesy of one of the POI Factory discussions.

http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Downloads

I have a NUVI 350 and I got tired of some of the phrases, such as "Recalculating". This now says "You lead and I will Follow, Sir"

Very easy to use and lots of fun.

What's great is when you have guests rinding in the car with you and their reactions to the new sayings coming from the GPS! Priceless!

Great Product but...

It does not work with the new Jill I loaded from Garmin this morning. Looks like Garmin changed something again.

There is a slight change in the new voices, so if you go by the line number to find what you changed before, the number will now be different in some cases for the phrase you are changing. Garmin I think added some phrases.

On 3/21 Garmin had updates

On 3/21 Garmin had updates (corrects problems when some routes are used) for the English British voices and the Australian voices. (765T) I do have the latest update but it won't work on these updates. It opens the voice, but you get symbols, not the actual phrases to change.
Thanks so much for this program, usually works great!

I Just posted v2.70.

Ok. I Just posted v2.70.

- Added support for new voice structure files. The text appears in the editor, but I am not sure all GPS will get the changes. The structure is different. Still, no harm can come to your GPS. If there is any problem, just revert to the original VPM.

- Added display of the voice version number.

As usual. Post feedback. I have not tested any voice change.

Have made a change using

Have made a change using version 2.70 on the newest voice update, and it appears to have worked just fine!! Thanks for doing this. Many of us think this is one of the best programs to add enjoyment to the GPS.......

Thank you for the feedback.
