Cannot get what to run? If you are loading custom POIs and what to load .bmp's, all you need to do is place the .bmp in the same folder as your POIs, ensure the name is the same as the .csv file, and then run POILoader to install them on your unit.

rpm4, can you describe exactly what steps you've done and exactly what is or is not happening?

Does the default gray dot show up on your GPS unit for the Custom POIs that you have loaded?

Have you double checked to be sure that you don't have double file extensions? (Are the file extensions showing for all the files on your computer?)

Have to double checked the spelling of the files?

Are they located in the same folder on your computer?

I click on the .bmp and save

I click on the .bmp and save as E85AllStates.bmp. Then I go to my documents and drag it into the the POI loader that I loaded..... No E85 icon comes up?

Are you also loading...

a poi? A csv file... A bmp file has to have the same name as a csv file and be in the same folder for poi loader to load it....

I have loaded the custom poi's... Now I want to download the icon that goes along with the custom poi's that I have. In this case, the E85 icon... I have a folder for those E85's.... I just dragged the icon into the poi loader..... When I was out yesterday, no icon appeared.

Chevrolet, an American Revolution.

Does have the exact same name?

Except for the extension? i.e. e85.csy & e85.bmp...

Also you may have to zoom in to see them.....

I just looked..

the poi is named: E_EightFive-AllStates_V.csv, the bmp should be named: E_EightFive-AllStates_V.bmp...

is it?

If it is already in the poi folder

Just rename it there... Just be careful you don't end up with a double extension.... like e85.bmp.bmp... if you do not see the extension when you are re-naming it don't add the extension... Do you know how to rename it? Right click on the name and select rename....

E_EightFive-AllStates_V.bmp..

E_EightFive-AllStates_V.bmp... I went to the download site (Where the icons are) I saved as, into my documents and renamed it to the above name..... I will go out to my car now and get the Garmin and hook it up and try to sync it.... How do I know I did it right? Do I turn on the unit and click on my custom poi's?

Yes that is the best way

Yes that is the best way using the custom poi and looking at the map.You may have to zoom in some.

You don't even need to go to your car...

Go to custom pois, select the e85 poi, select the a location, select map and it should show up on the map.....

But you've got the right idea now... Go Packers... wink

Well I turned on my Garmin,

Well I turned on my Garmin, went to "Extra's" then POI's E85 service stations.... I zoomed out as much as I could and my E85 icon didn't show up..... ? Do I have to be driving for it to show up?

Clarification

rpm4 wrote:

With your wording, I'm not sure. Are you using POI Loader to reload both the POI file AND the icon (both in the same folder) at the same time? POI Loader doesn't sync and you don't drag anything to it.

In not out....

Did you select where to>extras>custom POIs>E85 poi>a location>map?

If you did you should see the icon...Even if you are set to 3d... I zoomed out to 8 miles and still see an icon...

Start over

You MUST start over. Put both the .csv file and the .bmp file - with the EXACT same names except for the extension - into the folder on your computer. Then use POI loader to load them BOTH AT THE SAME TIME into your GPS. If you don't load them AT THE SAME TIME it won't work.

If they are in the same folder they will load at the same time..

I think he has it loaded correctly (not positive) but he may not be viewing the location of the poi by clicking on map....

All E85 Custom poi's are now

All E85 Custom poi's are now deleted from my Garmin..

When I go to poi files, and I download them (E85) a message comes up saying do you want Excel to open this file? I said yes... Then I dragged the file to the poi loader and then hooked up the Garmin and they were all there....

Then I went to the icons and did the same thing

No icon

--

You must do them at the same time

You can't do it that way. You have to put the icon and the csv file into the folder and then send them to the GPS at the same time - one step with POI loader. If you do the .csv file and then do the .bmp file next it won't work.

What folder?????

What folder?????

--
Chevrolet, an American Revolution.

On your computer

1. Make a folder on your computer.

2. In that folder place the .csv file AND the .bmp file. Name the files exactly the same name except for the extension - .bmp and .csv

3. Run POI loader and load the files from the computer onto your GPS

How do I get the link to the folder?

POI Loader

When you run POI loader just point it to the folder on your computer. It will load the files within that folder to the GPS.

Just save it

When you find the file here on POI Factory you can either open it with Excel or Save it. Just Save it into the folder you created on your computer.

Alternately, you can open it with Excel and then do a File, Save As and save it into the folder.

When you load it, if you use manual mode, you will have several choices on how to have it alert you. Check out FAQ and you will also find a wealth of information regarding this subject and others...

One last question

One last question (hopefully) Lets say I download Walgreens custom pois and icon... Could I create a seperate folder for those 2 things and then throw them into the poi loader?... I already created one folder already, the e85 .csv and e85.bmp...

--
Chevrolet, an American Revolution.

You can have a folder called my poi

in that folder you could have folders called red lights, speed cameras, e85, Walgreen, etc, When you point to the my poi folder, all the pois in all the folders will be loaded along with matching bmps, and mp3 files...

Motorcycle Mama had a great post about this... Maybe she will weight in....

Just set up subfolders.

>>>85.bmp

>>Pharmacy=subfolder
>>>Walgreens.csv

Run the poi loader and direct it to the main folder for download not the subfolders.

.

Each time you run POI Loader it takes all the Custom POIs, BMPs, and MP3s you have in those folders and compiles them into a single POI.GPI file.

The most simple thing to do is to create folders (as others have indicated in this thread and in the linked thread) and load all of them each time. It only takes a short time to load them.

If you direct POI Loader to the Walgreens subfolder, all that will get loaded is what is in that folder and the POI.GPI on the unit will be overwritten.

So in other words, keep

So in other words, keep everything in one folder.... Walgreens, E85, Wisconsin State Parkrs etc-etc?
