Fastest way to erase info from a c340?

I have many locations stored in my favorites folder, and I would like to delete them all, in one fell swoop, instead of one at a time. Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how? Thankyou.

I wonder if a hard reset

I wonder if a hard reset will delete all your data... however, it will delete your poi's (but they are pretty easy to put back on). I don't have the same model, but mine has a reset button on the back and instructions in the manual for use. Hope that helps.

A hard reset won't delete

A hard reset won't delete the favorites on a 340 (luckily for me). The Garmin manual only shows deleting them one at a time. You can try emailing Garmin about it. Sometimes they reply.

what about -

I guess the "restore settings" is just settings and has nothing to do with favorites.

And, if you had a lot of favorites-->edit-->delete could end up being a pain in the finger.

So... how about using mapsource, delete all of the favorites except maybe one or two, then save it back to your c340?

erasing info

If you use the POI loader program and just load the locations you want, the other locations will be erased from the 340. I would place the locations you want to have in the 340 in their own file. This way the Loader will only use that file and load the ones you want. Please remember that the ones you erase from the 340 are gone unless you have them saved already in another file.

I believe the discussion regards FAVORITES, not POI's. POI loader has no effect on the favorites, however the suggestion to load from MapSource does work with FAVORITES.

The C340 comes with the North American Mapsource preloaded. If you don't have another version of Mapsource, is there any way to reload?

Obtaining Mapsource

Mapsource DVD may be available free of charge from Garmin. See discussion: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/844

I called Garmin and they will sell me the software. Apparently its not free for the c340. I'll try calling later and see if a different rep gives a different answer.

ctroys

The c5xx models have a feature/function that's annotated in the manual. Perhaps something similar works on your model but wasn't annotated in the manuals of the c3xx models.
Won't hurt to try.

This is from the c550 manual.

1. Hold your finger on the lower right corner of the screen while turning on the power.
2 Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up screen appears.
3 Touch yes to clear all user data.
All original settings are restored. Any items that you have saved are erased.

Maybe you could try the press and hold while turning pwr on, one corner at a time.

If all else fails, contact Garmin and maybe they will give up a shortcut.

Hard reset on c5xx

ISMONOP
That is the hard reset for the models, unlike the reset button behind the faceplate. When I had troubles with my c530, the Garmin rep said that this is the proper way to reset the unit.

From my experience, it removes all of the Favorites and most of the other settings. On the Favorites, the three Garmin sites are placed under Favorites. While you need to put back most of your settings, your POI's remain, as does you Password if you have it set. Also, although it defaults to the original vehicle, any custom vehicles that you have imported remain in the system.

That's what I thought

Glad I haven't had to use it yet.

It was just something I thought might help ctroys get rid of all the favorites at one time. (Actually hoping someone would try on the c3xx's and let us all know).

I think I'd try removing the favorites using mapsource before trying the resets / restores.

RE: That's what I thought

It's actually not too bad as there isn't a lot of data to enter. The only thing that is a pain is that it erases the Home location and I have to remember to reset it when I get home.

For some reason, every so often my C530 goes into a mode when I start it where it thinks it has a new version of software to load. Once it starts up, it cannot find any satelites and I need to either use the reset button or the hard reset. Hard reset works best.

This works on c-340

I tried this on my c-340. It deleted all favorite locations, (as desired), but did NOT delete POI's (again, as desired) I did however have to reset the Language and Time options. No big deal. Thanks to all who offered ideas.

glad it worked

I must have missed the poi question in the original post.

You won't be able to delete any of the "factory" installed poi's. That's just the way it is.

If you are wanting to delete the custom poi's that you may have loaded on your unit, you can use the beta version of the garmin poi loader. Or just load a small poi file and that should take care of the poi's.

Original Question was about deleting Favorites

The original question dealt with the third type of files, Favorites, which can be setup manually from the GPS or imported through MapSource.

I know

The original ? didn't mention deleting poi's.
Just a little sarcasm on my part.

I have a C330, e-mailed Tech support asking how I could get lat/lon from "My Favorites", so I could save them in a POI file. Also, asked if Map Source would do this and if so could they please send me a copy. The reply was, yes, a copy was on the way. I haven't received it yet, but only get mail once a week, so either this Mon or next time I get mail it should be there....We'll see. Others have been getting this software as long as you go through Tech Support, Sales is going to want money. Hope this helps...

Did the hard reset on my c340 and now it just says locating satellites and its been that way for the last half hour. How long does it take to pick back up the state you are in?

Going back to the original

Going back to the original question...

From what I read, the person never said what model they had. With the nuvi 350, you can reset the favorites and POIs. With the c530, I know that you can't delete all the favorites at once. However, like it was said above, a hard reset will erase the favorites, but it won't delete the POIs.

I got it..

It needed to be outside in open skies to get the true satellite connection. I am good to go now.

Yes I lost waypoints but not the Poi's as they are stored on my PC so just had to upload thru Poi Loader.
