.

That's been posted here before and Garmin is okay with this method.

It should be noted that you won't have detail maps with this method.

Thanks

I have a registered copy of v7 so I got the full detailed maps and saved some money.

MM, For the last month or so, I've been trying to decide if there would be any value in using this process to simply obtain the MapSource program. My V2008 came without it. Seems like the benefit to having Mapsource is managing favorites, converting favorites to POI's, etc. Not having any detail maps is OK. Am I missing anything?

No, you aren't missing anything. Just be aware that you won't be able to search for POIs this way. But it's very useful for the reasons you state.

I have it on my work computer from this method since I don't have a DVD drive yet on my work computer.

This way I can transfer information from my Zumo if I need to.

Sad.....

It's sad that so many folks have a problem getting mapsource. When I bought my 76CS it came with mapsource. When I broke it and sent it back Garmin sent me a new, retail unit which included mapsource. When I bought my 76CSx it came with another mapsource CD. When I sent it in for repair I got back a new unit with yet another mapsource CD. My son and I bought my daughter a 76CSx and, bingo, another freaking CD. He and I just bought an eTrex Legend HCx for a friend and, while I didn't check, I'd guess it has a mapsource CD with it.

Mapping hand held units all come with this software. They include it like an extra freebie. Once you have any version of it the upgrades are an easy download.
