Chatty Charley thread for the week of April 7th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Actually by my calculations we will be at 75,000 members in about 9 days. We have been averaging 200 new members every 24 hours for months now. So I would venture to guess that we will be at 75,000 members by the 21st of April.

It will be interesting to see what the numbers are on that morning. I will make sure to post the results of my estimate;)

We are currently at 73,258 members

WOW

WOW, that's a lot of members.

but... how many are active?

how many are donators? (maybe we don't want to know the answer to that one)...LOL

Where do you find the membership number?

WOW

I would have thought it would be longer than just a few days for that 75000 mark.

I dont know if everyone who has IE7 (thats the one i have) is totally aware if you mouse over the name on the ONLINE USER LIST that it wil show the name and user number on the bottom left corner of the screen. and the same goes for the Popular content and the active forums topic list. gives the node number.

CBS news April 6 Stolen GPS's

CBS National news had a short item on how GPS units are becoming very popular with thieves. I think they said 29,000 units were reported stolen last year. Protecting my Nuvi was the first thing I learned about on this site.

Hurrah! No NYC congestion tolls! ... for now.

My wife has an arthritic knee and I need to drive her to Manhattan everyday to work. Very painful but not sure if we could get a NYC handicapped square permit for it. I have a NY state handicap permit but that is pretty much useless in NYC. I am not sure how I would have been affected if congestion pricing was passed by the NY State assembly.

Requirement for menbership

No don't everyone jump all over me this is just a comment. With all the newbie's comng on each day maybe there needs to be something that requres them to read the FAQ and check it off before posting questions. I know we all ask sometimes before looking but it seem the same question is coming up from every new person.

Miss POI's estimation

Great to hear that the site is growing so rapidly! Who knows... in approximately 5 years, when we hit the ½ a million mark, we can join forces to control gas prices so that we can all actually AFFORD to drive around, intentionally getting lost so that we can find our way with our GPS!!! LOL!!!

Motorcycles in CA

I am new to California and the law that allows motorcycles to 'share a lane'. I have experienced several 'fly-bys' when a motorcycle passes me on the right or left in between me and the car next to me. It always leaves me feeling uncomfortable.

Just wondering how others feel about this..

--
Garmin Nuvi 660, GTM 20 Traffic Receiver, eTrex Vista HCx, Mapsource US Topo Maps 2008, Mapsource MetroGuide USA V.5 with MetroGold

Two to a Lane -

I'm against that and weaving between cars on a freeway. Someone is going to get killed. I saw a CHP flip his bike doing that once - lucky he was wearing a helmet.
Folks who ride motorcycles are always complaining about those in autos and the way the drive in regards to them - but - they should look at the way they ride in relation to the auto. I've ridden bikes for more years than I would like to count and NEVER pulled the stuff some of these hot dogs pull.
OOPS!! Sorry - soap box. I'll get off now, you just pushed a button.

And by the way -

Happy Belated Birthday asianfire. I hope you have many, many more.

This is Great
