Ticket Cameras

I need some advice before I start reporting about these red light cameras. Can someone describe the various cameras, I have seen at several intersections in CA where there seems to be a movie camera at section of the intersection which I assume they are for red light purposes. but the ones that I know are not like those above, usually a large stand with a strobe light is what I am used to seeing.. please advise.
Thank You

Ticket Camera

I can't but it may be used to detect if the intersection is empty or not whe the light changes in other words it compares an empty view to see if there is anything in the intersection

Here is how to determine if

Here is how to determine if it is a red light camera:
1. Have signs warning about the camera. Go to google images search "red light camera sign". If the camera location doesn't have the sign then ticket will be invalid. At least here in SoCal, it must follow Caltrans design, not "I made this" kind of stuffs.

2. Doesn't have to be flash unit, big booth kind of camera. In Pasadena, Bellflower, the cameras are put UP HIGH, no flash. Some cameras are not PHOTOGRAPHIC CAMERA. They are VIDEO CAMERA. That is why those spray on coating won't work. The camera can look like a security camera in Bestbuy, Walmart...etc. It has a dome coverted. I will try to find a pic to post here.

Visit this website if you got ticket/ want to fight or just want to know more about red light camera: www.highwayrobbery.net

Mod: I believe that the link above did not violate any forum policy. I believe it is very helpful for people want to avoid getting ROB by ___________.

Thanks for the info, the

Thanks for the info, the reason I made this post was that I began seeing several (what appears to be) video cameras in Fountain Valley, CA on their main drag "Brookhurst Avenue" and was wondering if those cameras were used for "Red Light" reasons..

I was on Brookhurst last

I was on Brookhurst last weekend. Several Red Light camera on that street, especially Garden Grove - Westminster area. It wouldn't be surprise if they "follow the suit", make Brookhurst Ave -> Red Light Camera Ave.

Thanks for the info, I

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if those cameras I saw were being used for that purpose, I guess I will contact Miss POI and give her the list of sites where I saw those movie cameras.
Thanks

High mounted cameras

Generally or maybe always, in fact, the high, pole-mounted video "security" cameras are NOT red light camera and do not function as such. They are simply monitors that can be looked at when desired to see possible traffic problems (accidents, flow, signal light function, etc) and have the ability to dispatch needed emergency repair and or enforcement to any needed intersection in a timely manner.

The city in which I live and most cities in the surrounding area have installed (or are installing) these monitors at every major intersection.

These cities are ALSO installing red light cameras in a few of these intersections. Be aware of TWO camera systems at these intersections!

red lights located online

I was told by my lawyer friends that redlight info is public information (but not nec online). I google-searched all the redlights in my city (SD) and the intersections are listed! =) For you city, I would look it up on their .gov page and you can post all of the ones they have up. That way you don't have to drive by every single one to report it. Good luck!

Red light intersections

Did you know that you can insert an address and get gps coordinates?
This can give you a way to make your own POI alerts.

All the Cameras I see here

All the Cameras I see here in Maryland have TWO posts in their set-up.

One is the "Flash" and the other is the actual Camera.

Red Light Camera and Speed Locations

I just found this site and I am going to check the information against the current file I downloaded from here.

That site didn't have any

That site didn't have any listed where I live and I know they're out there.

DC Metro

I will say that the POIs list all cameras in the DC Metro region as Red light cameras. However, the Transportation department has these cameras for traffic surveillance. I have seen actual cameras that are used for ticketing that have a different appearance and they are oriented towards taking images of the Front and Rear license plates.

Not a lot of listings on that site yet...

I tried many metro areas and it came up blank (Chicago, Boston, San Fran, etc.) and it came up blank. I did get 4 hits for New York city.

It may be a work in progress?

I'm not 100% sure, but if

I'm not 100% sure, but if the camera is there with no warning sign, I don't believe the ticket is valid. There was a site I found (unfortunately I don't have it saved, but if I find it again I'll post it) and it had the exact amount of seconds that you had at each light etc. I think there are laws about how much time they have to give you as well.
