Keller Tx

Noticed every stop light intersection in Keller along 1709 (Keller Parkway) has cameras installed in all four directions. Intersecting roads as follows, (Edit: street names were added to the database by Miss Poi) I had never noticed them before.

hmmm

do you know if those are actual red light ticket cameras or just traffic cams that help keep the traffic running smoothly?
I know that there is a lot of cities in Texas that are all getting ready to start installing cameras. If you go to this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_light_camera
and look at the lights, is this what you are seeing? Are there signs that let you know that you are approaching a photo enforced intersection?

Traffic or Redlight?

How can you tell if a traffic cam or redlight cam?

Don't know if they are

Don't know if they are redlight or observation. The cameras appear to be tubularly shaped, with a second adjacent device I can't make out exactly. They don't quite look like the one on the Wikipedia page, but who knows how many models and manufacurers there are. As for traffic monitoring, I really doubt that. One of the adjacent cities had a local article about putting them (Red Light) into every intersection a year ago. They would pay for themselves fast. It raised a lot of fuss, but I don't think anything was done about it.

Meanwhile seems like they are racing to get them everywhere, with out any explanation.

See this link. North

See this link. North Richland Hills is immediately south of Keller, and the cameras look exactly the same. My guess from the link article is this is more than just red light--I think it may be a speed + red light camera.

Traffic Cam

A traffic camera looks like this:

http://tti.tamu.edu/publications/researcher/v39n4/images/cam...

These are the small tubular cameras usually pole mounted above the lights on an intersection. Charlotte, NC has a number of these for traffic. The Red Light cameras are a big box mounted in one corner of the intersection on top of the pole supporting the light arm.

Good explanation
