The pictures that you mentioned are the photos at the poi download? So you only need one picture for each poi.. Correct?

Yes, you will want to check the page before taking a picture so that you can see if there is already a pic. Starbucks has been covered. I also did Cracker Barrel the other day.

NOTE: Be careful when photographing banks. As I was taking the pic of the Sun Trust Bank, the bank manager came out and asked me what I was doing and why I was taking a photo of the bank building. I had to explain and reassure her that I wasn't casing the place. I think she took down my license plate.

I got the same thing at Cosco.. After that I was more secretive.

I wouldn't even have bothered to try and reassure her. I would have simply stated I was taking a photo and left it at that. It isn't any of her business anyway and you were within your legal rights to do so.

Then I would have taken a picture of her just to rile her up.

It is getting worse and worse in this country practicing amateur photography taking legal photos in legal locations. Photographers are getting harassed everywhere now. Take a picture of a bridge, Train station, mall, airport terminal, outside a bank, etc. and someone is bound to get all worked up about it, especially rent-a-cops.

I wanted to take a photo of a statue in a public location while there was an amber alert on, and the police stopped me, said no photos permitted. Since 911 there are some weird things going on with our "rights". Probably still are... As posted above a security person told me I couldn't take pictures of Cosco because of terrorists, without permission of the store. I just said o.k. as I had already snapped the photo that I wanted.(With him in it... )

You're right - since 911 we are living in a different world. Even at some of the shopping malls where I was taking pictures this afternoon, customers going in and out of the stores were giving me long stares.

Its a shame, yet, I can understand the concern.

i am a realtor, i take photos all the time of homes business, banks as long as you are on public property they cant do anything about it NOW with that said, once you are in there private parking lot , they can cause you a ton of grief! i have it down to an art, i am in front of a property less than 10 seconds, and have a half dozen shots of the place, have i been chased sure, have i sat in the back of cop cars yeppers, but as LONG AS YOU ARE ON PUBLIC land there isnt anything anyone can do! AS FAR AS CHARGING YOU

I really didn't want the hassle of calling my wife to come bail me out and getting my name on some watch list. Some of these mall parking lots are big and the stores are set back off the road. Its hard to get a good picture without standing in their parking lot. A lot of the bank buildings were outparcels in the parking lot.

I'm learning.

Just tell them you are trying to find evidence that the earth has shifted on it’s axis and that you think your gps may be incorrect….

Telling them that may keep me from being arrested, but I'd probably be committed instead.

Miss POI it might save you and everyone some time if you made a list that showed what pic you have and then eveyone could check if before sending in dup's. Just a comment.

Just because you are harassed about taking photos doesn't mean you have to accept it. Knowing your rights is important. Carry a copy of these rights with you when you plan on taking photos of structures and businesses.

And thanks DrewDT. I downloaded and printed a copy. I only had that one problem with the bank, but you never know. I try to be as quick as I can, but sometimes, I get stares from inside.

If I need to photograph a bank again, I decided to do it on a Sunday.

Would you belive that I use to be in the USMC and for b1 yr worked for the base newpaper taking photos, Gary A, you are out there every day and shooting and uploading all these great photos. I am very impressed and I knowe you got the COW award already ( as myself) I want to re-nominate you again for you hard work and deceation to the wonderful site to be at.

Whenever I have errands to run or appointments to make, I just take my camera and maybe adjust my route slightly to drive past needed storefronts. At almost $4/gal, I'm not just running out to snap photos.

I got a couple of unexpected ones yesterday and today that I have to crop & resize before sending to Miss POI. Plus, a couple bad ones that will never see the light of day. The delete key is wonderful! Now, if I could just find the DWIM key!?!

Besides, I'm having fun and hopefully helping the site at the same time!

I thought it was just supposed to be chain stores but I guess individual POI locations are OK too?

Alright, Paul! Let's keep Miss POI busy.

While a lot of the POI files would require storefront pics, there are other categories. I just scanned down the sizeable, alphabetical list to see if I had or could get a photo that would go with the subject. A lot of them now are regional, so it will take members who live in or have visited the area.

After that, I let Miss POI decide what she wants to use. She has very high standards!

But, with what we submit, she is building a large library of stock photos. She may even be able to rotate photos for certain files.

Just make sure to include a link to the page you would like to see this picture on please;)

One thing that might be cool and unique is to submit the "original" store, restaurant or cafe that started it all. Like the first McDonald's or first Starbuck's etc...

In case you happen to live in one of those areas and the place still exists just snap a picture and send it in!
