Nuvi 3xx/6xx Antenna position for acquisition

Hi - the manual says that for first time acquisition of satellites, have the antenna flap open to the 90 degree position. But thereafter, apparently one re-acquires at the 180 degree position. Would acquiring after a long jump at 90 degrees work better?

When carrying handheld, can I get better satellite locks by choice of position? Other than inconvenience, can one actually run the Nuvi at the 90 degree antenna position (if it matters)?

TIA

Antenna

As recommended , the antenna must be place at a position parallel to earth surface to get the maximum efficiency of the receiver.

Flap open to 090 degres his the most common position if you GPS is vertical.

If the GPS is face horizontal , set the antenna to 180 will work. Parallel to earth surface is the key of sucess.

If you close the antenna you will be not able to get any signal.

Thanks

Makes sense. On rereading the manual after your post, no idea where I got the idea that Garmin wanted the antenna open 180 degrees (other than when that would make it more or less parallel to the earth).

Full Open

I always use mine with antenna full open, mainly because the windshield is in the way for a 90 degree opening. Never had any problems with this.

Hadn't noticed one way or

Hadn't noticed one way or the other, seems to work good either open or at 90 deg,
