searching for cities - anywhere to exclude small place names?

When using the "FIND" feature to search for a particular city, the search results show EVERY place name, no matter how big or small. What's worse, the small, lightly populated places show up first in the list. Is there a way to exclude the small places? Also, is there a way to have the results sort by distance?

(BTW, I have a Street Pilot 2730.)

My Nüvi 260...

...does sort by direct line distance from current location to the chosen city, but like yours it does list everything along the way too. And it only lists 50 at a time, so if the one you want is too far away, it won't even make the list. If you want to start the list closer to the destination, you have to use the "Near" button to make it search someplace away from our location.

I'm talking about SPECIFIC cities

I was asking about specific cities. For examples, let's say I wanted to add "Germantown" as a via point for my route. When I search for "Germantown" by typing it in, the results give many, many Germantowns (there are five in Maryland, alone!). What's worse is that it shows the smaller towns first in state order, then the larger towns, and then finally the cities.

What I would like is for the program to:

1. limit the results to larger, commonly recognized places with the name (e.g., USPS recognized)
2. show the results in distance order, so I don't have to scroll through towns that are nowhere near my current location.

I'm not certain on how your

I'm not certain on how your GPS feature of 'search' is set up, but the LG LN740 is unique in that it first asks you to enter a State or Province, once that has been determined, it then gives you two options: to search by City or Street or Street or City. At the same time you can input the distance which dramatically improves the location of the city or town you are looking for.

I find this to be very useful and a well thought out feature when searching for a specific place.

I unfortunately, like yourself have the same issue with my Garmin and I do not know of any workaround. I suspect there is a way, perhaps we have not figured it out yet.
