How to save custom POIs to a memory card for my Garmin Nuvi 660

I've figured out how to convert addresses into coordinates for a large batch of offices my team visits. However, I wanted to save them to the memory card we have for each of the Nuvi 350/660 units. When I tested it, it installed directly to the unit itself. I'm not sure how much memory it takes or how many it can hold, but I have many more addresses to input and don't want to max out the internal memory.

How do I get those custom POIs on the memory card? I don't see anything in the settins to tell it to look on the card. So I'm not sure if I can just copy it over to the card when I have the GPS connected to my computer.

Can someone point me in the right direction here? I'm sure it's pretty simple and I'm just missing an easy step.

Thanks,
John

Usually the POI loader gives you options for what directory you want to send your pois. When the poi loader starts, click where you see a drive. Hope this helps.

Saving POIs

Make a backup of your whole nuvi drive on to your PC. You can gain more storage space on your nuvi by deleting the unncessary files such as voice, vehicles, .pdf files. Leave the .img files alone as these are your maps.
Insert an SD card into your nuvi, you will now see a 2nd additional drive on your computer. Once you run POI Loader->select device and it will show the SD card on the nuvi. POI Loader will create a file called poi.gpi under Garmin\poi folder on the nuvi or SD drive. You can just copy the poi.gpi file to the other nuvi units following the same folder structure.

Mariner described the process perfectly. Remember, when you download subsequent pois, you overwrite the previous version.

I found the location

Thanks to your comments and a little common sense that I didn't have yesterday, I was able to figure it out.

I was expecting to select my location before it loads. However, you actually select the location early in the process.

The screen is a little misleading, it says "Select the device where you would like to store you points of interest." I took that to mean my Nuvi because it found the Nuvi each time I plugged it in. But you can actually select the SD card at this point.

Then, as I found out from a previous problem, you select the folder where the file is in. You are not selecting the file itself.

Once that is done, it uploads the files onto the card. At power up, my 660 said there are new files on the memory card, do you want to import them into the Nuvi. I said no and then when I looked for the files, they were right were I expected them to be.

Thank you everyone. I appreciate the help and I home my comments help the next person who is struggling with this.
