Glad to see nuvi bundled with MSN!

It’s good to see that Garmin is coming out with a GPS receiver bundeled with MSN. That is not the case in the 7XX series, where MSN is an extra option and not offered as part of a package. I was getting worried that Garmin was slowly abandoning MSN. With the nuvi 880, I see that there is hope in the horizon!
Does anybody know if the MSN service offered in the 800 series is the same as that offered in the 600 series (i.e. traffic, movies, gas prices and weather)?

Glad I bought mine at Costco

I will just wait till it comes out...then they will have the 7xx series as cheap as my 650 was..then I can have routing...

Dave_ Nuvi 660 , 760,1490LMT Wooster, Ohio

still need better routing

I really like the voice recognition feature, but I would really like a lot more work done on the routing before I will be tempted by another upgrade.

I would like to see a much better algorithm which will make more "human" like time/distance trade-offs. I'm not usually happy with either the shortest or the fastest.

The shortest will sometimes cost one 5 min just to save 50 ft and quickest will sometimes want me to drive an extra 10 miles to save a few seconds.

It does look good. Was wondering for those of us who purchased MSN Direct, when will version 2 come out? I really like version 1, but if 2 gives stocks, local info, news, etc., when will it be available and for how much?

It seems all companies fish. They put some good stuff out, but not all at once. That way they hope we come back for more hahaha

enhanced version MSN Direct... more info

It is everything from ver 1 plus more so they are calling it an enhanced version 2.

I have a thread started here where I will post info just on the new MSN Direct v2 services and screenshots next week.

Price will be the same as before but you must have a compatible nvui with Web Favorites (780, 800, etc) and MSN Direct receiver.

It’s too bad that MSN

It’s too bad that MSN enhancements are not made available to nuvi 680 & c580. After all, we pay the same amount for the MSN service.

Nuvi 880

Does anyone know when the 880 will be available? I am guessing it will probably be in the later part of the 1st Quarter of 2008, sometime after the CES show in Vegas.

Nuvi 880

Will be around end april.

Mmmm

/drool

It said "second quarter"

On one of the brochures, it said available in the second quarter which would be April-June 2008.

Note also that the cost of MSN Direct will be different for the 780 and 880. Three months free, then $49.50 per year, or $129 for lifetime vs. the 680's current one year free.

Software Updates

Would be nice if Garmin offered software updates for purchase for folks who want to avoid purchasing a new unit once a year.

Jen

They do!!

Jen

New maps get updated once a year. You don't have to purchase a new unit every year to stay up to date.

600 series has traffic from Real Channel

I have Nuvi 660

600 series receives traffic information from real channel and not MSN direct.

780 has MSN and the new 880.

Thanks.

Not all 600's

I'm with Zecpull

I am hoping that the new 8xx series will drive the prices of the 7xx series down. Can't wait. Til then, I am loving the wide screen of my 250w!

The TMC

Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the update!

real-time traffic channel

Garmin provides traffic information from two sources. One is real-time traffic channel TMC and other MSN direct.

TMC has more coverage and gives better traffic update, where as MSN has lot of other services such as gas prices, local movies etc. But, gas prices is not really useful as they are 3 days old and in a new area, it takes time sometimes even hours to get the data. So, not really useful.

Nuvi 660 uses TMC traffic and it is really good.

thanks

Thanks for the update.

Excuse me...

Excuse me?! I don't know what you are experiencing with MSN Direct but I have two separate accounts and don't have anything like you are claiming above. One is with my 680 and one is with the new MSN Direct v2 with a 770 that has been upgraded. An almost insignificant few of the gas prices are 3 days old and I travel regularly and don't see an update taking hours in a new area. Dude I would see about changing out your receiver if it is acting up or you maybe you are located outside a coverage area.

I agree that it is updated

I agree that it is updated pretty regularly. Yes, there may be a few that say Yesterday or 2 days ago, but it gives you pretty good info, I feel. At least it's a ballpark. Shoot, some of these stations change prices faster than you can blink an eye.
