Creating POI's (only shows 50 locations)

On my last creation "Community Colleges", I am missing about 7 places that don't show up in the Nuvi660 and I can't figure it out.. Would appreciate some help again in creating .csv files using Excel or notepad.. I just can't seem to put my finger on it. I am into detailed information, like using columns d and e of excel spreadsheet to display on the initial screen as much info as possibl instead of having to access the map to find out if that is POI I am looking for..

50 Nearest

If I count correctly, the file has 57 locations. Your nuvi only displays the 50 nearest locations. That's probably why 7 seem to be "missing".

You can search for other locations (beyond the 50 nearest) by using the spell/search feature.

Missing POI's

Thanks JM,
That is excatly what happened, I keep forgetting how many they will display, sure enough when I did a search on "Yuba College" (one of my missing poi's) it was there and it showed up.
Thanks Again

Matt, The excel file is the

Matt,
The excel file is the same file I always upload here. All of my uploads have been created in excel but saved in .csv format.. If you have excel on your system, you should be able to open any of mine or any other POI files listed at this site. However I have been using the Alt-Enter to clean up the files so they look better on the screen.

Hello Nick...

I believe what Matt is really asking is this...

Within Excel... what does the information in columns A and B correlate to? For example in your Communities Colleges POI, it reads as such...
A = -117.90777 and B = 33.66888.

I'm guessing they are GPS references but where do you get them?

Thanks in advance,

Wil

hi Wil

Not sure what Matt is asking for, but to answer your question:
The csv format file to create a poi file contains three fields (the fourth is optional)separated by a comma as follows;
longitude,latitude,name,comment
If you create the file in notepad you need to type in the commas, also if a field might contain a comma(not the separating comma)for example between city and state-that field would need to be enclosed with quotes " for example
longitude,latitude,test,"anytown,usa"
or without quotes as in
longitude,latitude,test,my town
if a field is broken with a carriage return that also needs to be within quotes as in
longitude,latitude,test,"anytown, usa
phone: 123-456-7890"
The advantage of using Excel is that you don't need to manually type the ,'s or "'s Just type the info into the columns and save as a csv file.
column A = longitude, B = latitude, C = name , D = comment
to enter a line break in excel use alt enter

For more detailed info on csv format check out the
faq & help section.
(Also notepad and excel are not the only ways to create a poi file)
Longitude and Latitude can be found numerous places - I find google earth the easiest for me.

Geocoder

A pretty good site (that uses Google) for obtaining lat/long information is:

http://www.infosports.com/m/map.htm

Be sure to read the instructions on the right-hand side.

I'm not sure you have to do this, but I always round the numbers to have only 5 digits to the right of the decimal point (because this is the way they are shown in POI Loader's help file under how to create csv files).
