Nuvi 350 version 5.10 update

After being a little gun shy over the version 4.90 issue, has anyone done the 5.10 update?? Any problems??

I will try it because it

I will try it because it deals with coordinates and speaker issues (which I can't seem to ever be satisfied with the speaker). Will let you know.

EDIT: It took awhile for all the loaders to load, but the update seemed to work ok. It didn't do anything to my volume or clarity of sound (disappointed). Everything seems to work without issues. Favorites are still there.

update

just installed the update..no problems..loaded right up..sitting here in the basement with a full satellite signal.

exchange rates

No problem here technically.

One of the updates says, "Updated currency converter exchange rates," which does concern me. With today's falling Greenbacks, this could be scary. I nearly had a heart attack when I was in Canada last month. My kids are about to ask for their allowances in Loonies!

MP3 player problem on 5.10

I updated to 5.10... and now my mp3 player will not allow me to advance to the next recording.

Anyone else try the mp3 player on the Nuvi 350?

But... I do think the scratchiness of the speaker is a lot better. Before I was giving the speaker about a 4 and now I would give it about a 6.

Just tested the MP3

No problem here. Advance or reverse.

I updated my Nuvi 350 to

I updated my Nuvi 350 to Software version 5.10 yesterday. The volume appears better. Nothing else different I have noticed, but Garmin had a pretty big list of fixes/changes for 5.10. I also noticed the GPS SW Version 3.00 (See line 6 of Settings --> System --> About) update appears to cause quicker satellite acquisitions.

I tried the mp3 player and I couldn't go forward or backwards, then I realized that I only had loaded one song. So I went and did a "play all" and it worked fine after that, could that be your issue?

I still don't see much of a difference in sound. What have you noticed?

Linebreak Display Problem

Updated with no problems or side effects. Only thing I noticed was "Hey Garmin, the Linebreak display problem still isn't addressed. It's been almost a year now. Four updates and still no fix. Is this problem here to stay?"

Sounds like Garmin's IT guys address the "job security" issue with "let's make a small step at a time"...

Download and install Garmin Webupdater http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
Connect your GPSr to your PC, run webupdater.
This only update device firmware & software and also
lets you load additional vehicle icons.

Or go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=1169 and download it. This link also shows the changes between versions. I prefer this method.

Charley.............

it sounds like you just have a bad speaker. Maybe it has become detached. Sometimes the paper cone will detach from the outer edge in a spot, causing a little vibration. Updates won't fix that, if that's what it is.

5.10 killed Attention Tones?

I upgraded my Nuvi 350 last night and noticed today that the Attention Tones no longer work. Used to beep first before it issued navigation directions. The attention tones are working when I pass my speed alert spots, so there's nothing wrong with the speaker or otherwise. It just doesn't beep anymore before issuing navigation instructions.

I've checked the menus and Attention Tones are turned on. Of course, I can't positively say they were there with V5.0. I think when I bought the 350 it had V4.9 and they were definitely working then.

The other thing I noticed is that the reset button on the back just turns it off. Did it used to do a reset and reboot? I only had to do that once while I've had the 350, so I'm no longer sure about that.

Anyone else seeing this behavior? I really liked the attention tone feature and might downgrade back to V5.0 if I don't see any other real improvements. Can't really say it's acquiring satellites any faster or more accurately than before. It was pretty darned fast and accurate before, anyway.

Attention tones

After the 5.10 update, I noticed also that my Nuvi 350 lost the Attention Tones.
Usually, I have Jill’s voice selected, but today I chose a voice without TTS, and I discovered that the attention tones work fine. That means the 5.10 updated killed the tones only for TTS voices. I hope Garmin will fix this error soon.

TTS

What's TTS by the way?

TTS = text to speech, where

TTS = text to speech, where the GPS will phonetically sound out the street names. Or, try to. smile

Ahhh the ingenious piece of technology that converts "Expressay" to "EX-PWEE" when it finds "EXPY" on the map.... smile

I like how my naughtly

I like how my naughtly little Australian Karen pronounces "smart" as "smut". wink

Yeah, that is what I thought

Yeah, that is what I thought, but it works fine 80% of the time. Who knows, but it isn't bad enough to send back and be without it for a week or two...lol.

Choose TTS or Tones? No contest

Well, that's not really an option - to run it without TTS. Not that the Attention Tones are all that important. I just liked and miss having the tones first. Well, other than that, the 5.10 upgrade seems OK.

Problem was in the download

Somehow, when I downloaded the 5.10 update... it didn't fully take or something. I downloaded it again... and now everything is working fine.

Gotta have my tunes... smile

Didn't even notice, but you are right

I travelled back from NC today and I didn't even notice that my tones didn't go off, but you are right. This was the first trip I took since upgrading to 5.10. Just tried it in sim mode and like it was said, a non tts voice, you hear it. This really sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karen

Buffet-I almost ran off the road laughing the other night when I got up to the pizza place last week. I had Karen's voice on, and the street name I was looking for was Buttitta Drive.
