Chatty Kathy thread for the week of December 3rd 2007

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Wow! What a good observation, you must work for the FBI. I am severely left handed.

I'm not left handed, but if I'm typing with only one hand (which I do a lot at work) I can type a lot better with my left than my right.

That's All Over

In NC (and VA, too) just the mention of snow (even flurries) seems to send half the population rushing to the grocery store to buy milk and bread. I've never understood why... snows here seldom last more than a day or so, and are seldom deep enough to keep you off the roads for more than about a half-day. So where did the idea that "We'll starve to death if it snows" come from? I think I could survive that long on the crumbs in the bottom of the toaster. smile

No matter where I lived in or out of the military, it was the same everywhere. Bad weather prediction, people go crazy and think "I gotta run to the store and even though I'm a guy, I gotta buy the last 10 boxes of sanitary napkins because they are the last thing on the shelf and I might need to stop the bleeding from a cut to the arm opening an old expired can of fruit cocktail. Or 20 sink stoppers in case I have to fill my sinks with water and the dogs run off with the first 15!

I think most people have enough food in their house to last the better part of a week. It may not be full 7 course meals, but they have at least a jar of something like peanut butter and some bread or crackers.

And most, like me, need to

And most, like me, need to go for a few days without a 7 course meal and lose weight!

I touch type (both hands of course). If I have to hold a telephone in one hand, and type at the same time, my typing hand has a hard time finding the keys that the other hand usually types. It's frustrating. (Yes....I could use a speakerphone or headset).

MISS POI

just thinking, this can be dangerous in my situation but going to ask anyway,
When there is more than one page on the forum topic or even on one page threads, can this site be set to show the most recent posts first, instead of going thru 2 or more pages to find the most current post,OR is there a way to do it otherwise,
thanks.. and hard to stay away from this site for some reason. Keep up the good work.

I personally wouldn't like

I personally wouldn't like that cause I would have no idea what they were talking about if I never saw the thread before, but I can definitely see the advantage if I were to view the thread over and over again.

If you click on Unread Posts on the right it will show all threads that have messages you haven't read. From there just click on the link that says something like "3 New" and it will take you to the new posts in that thread.

And Unread Posts will only show you new posts from the last 2 weeks, so if you are new it won't inundate you with every post from day one.

That was really helpful.
I am new to the site, and I was having a hard time trying to figure out how to navigate it without being overwhelmed by all the new information.
This really helps. I will start by learning the newer stuff and then, once I have time, going back over older posts.

Not too sure this is right IMHO. If you click on "Unread Posts" I have not seen a "3 New" type of message. However, if I go to "recent posts" I have seen this type of message or if I go to my account and click on "track" I see this type of message. In any case if the thread is more than one page long, it has not gone to the last page when I click on the "3 new" type of message.

Threads

Anywhere you see something like "3 New" it indicated new messages that you haven't seen. If all of the messages in the thread are new for you then it will just say "view." In Track (or My Recent Posts) it shows all threads that you have participated in, and shows the ones with unread posts at the top. I usually start there. Clicking on Unread Posts will show all threads with new posts (from last 2 weeks) that you haven't read whether you have participated in that thread or not.

It is odd reference the multiple page threads. Sometimes it take you to the new ones and sometimes not. More often not.

Well, tomorrow is my first (I think) trip that I have taken with the nuvi that was over 2.5 hrs and in a completely new area. We shall see how well it does. I have full confidence though or I would have a map and mapquest directions as a backup.

I think on any long trip,

I think on any long trip, especially going to an unfamiliar place, I'd have backup paper/printed maps. You hear about peoples' GPSrs crapping out all the time. And you know how ol' Mr. Murphy is...

But, I'm betting it will give perfect routing in your unfamiliar area because you won't know any different. wink

Me too! For a week. Although I will only be relying on the Nuvi to navigate the first day, after that I will rely on the train engineer (but will monitor his navigation on the Nuvi). smile

Hummus?

Now, that's something I can do without for a long time. Never acquired a taste for it. Of course, I don't like garbage (did I spell that right?) beans on/in my salads (either).
