Proposed forum change

It's great that we have separate Magellan and Tomtom forums now, but I have noticed that when I posted a comment in the welcome/open talk forum about what I had read about Navigon it was moved to the "Other GPS brands" forum.

I think moving that request for comments to the "Other GPS brands" makes it less useful.

Those other forums should be for support or specific discussion of those brands, or other brands. The open talk should be for questions for the community about their experiences, some such posts may easily concern more than one brand. Like this one!

I was specifically telling about the Navigon free traffic, and requesting comparison and comments from others, users or non users. It's certainly different than paying $60 a year for traffic from Magellan or Garmin.

That post was totally different from a support forum post or a brand specific post. I don't have a navigon. I saw my first two of them today, at Frys and at Microcenter. Neither worked, so I couldn't play with them. Dunno why they didn't work. Interesting in that fact. Frys has 50 units on display, most working.

I did play with my first TomTom today and I may buy one. Seen some cheap ads recently.

What does everyone think about where posts should be?

Forums?

I don't need no stinkin forums!! smile Actually I just hit unread post and choose what I want to read. I don't use the forum locations unless there is something specific I want to know. So if I wanted to know what people thought about the Navigon, I would have went to the Other Brands forum and searched there. But I would have missed your post because it wasn't in that forum. That is probably the reason for the move.

Search

You can always do a search to find all posts on a specific topic - regadless of where it is posted. This site rocks as is...

I moved the thread to that

I moved the thread to that area for the following reason.

In the future someone might be at that certain brand and wants to hear about others experience with it. I would go to the other brands forum area if I was looking for that brand and would be happy to find that thread that you found and read it to see what your thoughts were.

People can also use the search feature of the site to type in the models that they are interested in but I would like to keep the model discussions in their designated forums so that it is easier for people to search.

One thing about the search feature, however, and the new posts feature as well:
If you click on "recent posts" you get a listing of the most recent posts. Missing from that display is which forum that post was in.

I wish that information were there in that display.
