Chatty Kathy thread for the week of December 3rd 2007

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

well we FINALLY got some

well we FINALLY got some rain in southern California a few days ago!!!! about time

That storm

made ice all over my driveway... 2 to 3" of snow, topped by about a half inch of sleet, all turned into a block of ice by freezing rain. That's Iowa this time of year...

rain

I'm glad you got some in my area of tx we only got .02 inches from that same cold front.

--

weather

We got a little bit of everything in western MI. The snow, sleet, rain, made an interesting drive into work today.

More weather

It's been a strange weekend in the Eastern Washington, too. Snow, wind, rain, more wind, bitter cold, then relative warmth.

I can't tell if I'm going to burn up tomorrow or freeze my butt off. Or get soaked or be blown away.

With all the great GPS technology, we're still stuck with unpredictable weather.

I love Iowa

We live in Georgia, but my son went to college in Iowa. He had to make major adjustments!

In Georgia, we shut everything (work, school, etc) down on just the promise (note, I didn't say "threat") of snow or ice.

I used to really love visiting Ames. That is such a great town. I might retire there someday.

One thing's for sure, it's

One thing's for sure, it's COLD in Connecticut!

In NC (and VA, too) just the mention of snow (even flurries) seems to send half the population rushing to the grocery store to buy milk and bread. I've never understood why... snows here seldom last more than a day or so, and are seldom deep enough to keep you off the roads for more than about a half-day. So where did the idea that "We'll starve to death if it snows" come from? I think I could survive that long on the crumbs in the bottom of the toaster. smile

Knee deep in Minnesota

Well, maybe not quite that deep. But we have about a foot of snow in the yard now.

snow

I wish it would snow in GA, haven't seen a good snow here in a few years

Ice

Had a little bit of ice the other day, but now just a slight dusting of snow. Gusty wind and very cold!

Warm in Houston

76 tomorrow and lots of sun. I also can't stand snow. Lived in it too long in Cheyenne, WY and Wichita, KS.

Wind is the killer

bobkz wrote:

the temp hasn't been too bad, but the wind in NYC has been brutal the last couple of days. that's what makes you feel the cold!

Wind Chill and cold temps

Woke up to -5 this morning. Snowed and sleet on Monday. Temps unusally low for this time of year.

Love the winter sweaters and coats, hate the cold.

My daughter moved to Tucson in August, my brothers live in Houston and California, brother in law left for Yuma in September...mmmmm they might be onto something.

Time to get more wood for the woodstove so the utility company doesn't get all my vacation money.

Yeah, VA is pretty bad. The mention of snow and the schools close down. You have to remember though that we virginians can't drive worth a darn!

I don't buy bread or milk (can't stand either). But I do rush out and make sure that I have enough beer, coffee, and snacks!

weather is number 1 in Albuquerque

Surveys are done every now and again here in town;

Consistently the number one reason people love coming to Albuquerque is because of the great weather.

We get all four seasons but none of them are extreme. As I say this looking out my office window it looks to me like we are in for some bad weather today wink

We have gotten 11" of snow and it's supposed to snow today, and Saturday and Sunday. Whooo Hooo... let it snow, let snow, let it snow...

RE: Well We Finally Got some

Send some of it east. Extreme drought here in central NC, and we're on water usage restrictions. My son lives in Atlanta... Lake Lanier is almost empty, and they've only got like a 2 month supply of water left!!! We're a little better off here in Greensboro NC.

SE PA

Got about 1" of snow here in SE PA it was mixed with rain and sleet. Nothing like trying to get that frozen stuff off your windshield in 25° weather with 9° wind chill first thing in the morning.

A flood of GPS

Good grief!!!

No matter where I turn, I see GPS on sale.

I bought a Magellan 2200t last October from Buy.com at what I thought was a bargain price ($169) with a $20 rebate which brought it down to $149. In the process of learning how to use it, I found POI-factory on the web and realized that there are better ones out there although more expensive. Not wanting to spend more than I had to, I felt that the 2200T would be OK despite the Magellan support issues and the older map installed on it. And so I settled down to enjoy it, despite the ads for discount Garmins and Nuvis all over the place.

Well, just a few minutes ago, I just saw a Sears ad for a Magellan Maestro for $149. Oh well...

I just bought a Nuvi 360, which I'm very impressed with. Anybody have any suggestions as to things I should do to make it bigger/better/faster/more?

Thanks!
