Garmin Beanbag mount

A friction, aka bean bag,

A friction, aka bean bag, mount has a heavy base which is loaded with what feels like lead shot. The "rubber" type material on the bottom does not use any adhesive. It's just a tacky type material. The base is flexible and can be bent to adjust to most any dash curve/slope. While I don't have a VW, my dash board is textured and is pebble like so it's not exactly smooth. My bean bag mount works great and never moves or slides around.

I ordered mine on Nov. 25th and got a confirmation that it shipped on yesterday, Dec. 3rd.

The bean bag is not bad at all. much sturdier than I imagined.

Beanbag

Does the arm separate from the base on the mount? If so, does anyone sell just the ball arm? I already have 2 beanbag bases from my 2610 and 60C. From the pictures it looks like the same base.

Maybe that's why...

I have the StreetPilot 7200 and was told to avoid the beanbag mount because the unit was so top heavy. I went to e-mount.com and got item # 93-01-430-230J which is effectively a heavier duty, same thing.

Maybe that's why Amazon's description of the beanbag doesn't include that it's compatable with the C340's. I hope my spider one fits. Looks like it's going to take up a lot of dashboard on the Volvo.

Sharper,

I use the beanbag for my 7500 and it works fine..... but I DO notice some occasional wobble on a bumpy road.

That mount you refered to at e-mounts looks like a very nice one. How do you like it so far ?

Tim

I don't like beanbag mounts.

Not trying to put down the bean bag mount - it is just not my cup of tea.

I tried one before with an old Garmin Quest GPS and had the whole thing land on the floor once or twice while driving. I am not an aggressive driver (so if you are, just be careful). Hate to scratch that GPS screen!

I chose a ProClip this time around as it is custom made for your GPS model and vehicle model. A lot more expensive than a bean bag though.

Sorry ... not trying to hijack this thread ... I just wanted to quickly mention it as a possible alternative to both the windshield mount and the bean bag mount as an FYI only.

Thanks!

Wow, thanks for such a thorough explanation! That was really helpful!

Beanbag Love

I also use the Nav-Mat with my C340 and it has never budged a fraction of an inch, even on some very hard stops. I was skeptical but it works a charm.

Garmin is sending me a free

Garmin is sending me a free beanbag mount since I am unable to use the supplied mounting options in the box.

Go Garmin!

I wish I had seen this earlier…

Go Garmin!

I already bought my beanbag mount at Amazon, but it would have been worth taking a shot at the Garmin generosity that's been mentioned in this thread several times.

But, as I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong." smile

Be careful of which mount

I thought the beanbag idea was a great idea so I ordered one from Amazon for $16, but it would not work with the Garmin 680. After checking these boards again, I ordered the "friction" model. Much better the simple bean bag (it was a Garmin product too).

Thanks for everyones input.

personally I like having it

personally I like having it as close to my fingertips as possible while driving. THat means winshield mount in my accord coupe. I could definitely see it working in a larger truck mor effectively but not sure about tthe total effectiveness

Great price great beanbag mount for anyone still looking for one

I bought this one a while back from Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000U5TUWE

It works remarkably well and doesn't slip on my Audi TT dashboard. For the price (<$12 and qualifies for free super saver shipping) it can't be beat.

Hope this helps!

Love the friction mount

I have been using the Garmin friction mount for a month or so. Stays put. And now Amazon has reduced the price to $21.89 so its an even better deal!

I like the security of the windshield mount. Can the bean bag style really "go sailing"?

No Sailing

We just got back from a 1200 mile trip around New England and it never moved and inch.

I bought mine last year before we went to California, because I read that they don't like it when you have things stuck to your windshield, that was probably closer to a 2000 mile ride and never had an problem with it.

I like it better than the suction because I can pull it off the dash and stick it up against the drivers seat and you can't see it. No licking the suction to get it to stick.

Planning to get one...

as soon as my windshield mount stops sticking. Right now, it still sticks cause it's only 1 month old. My previous mount lasted about a year and the suction started to deteriorate.

Fry's Electronics stores carry it....

I wish I was as happy with the clowns running for president as I am with the bean bag mount smile I have zero complaints with the bean bag !! and lots of complaints with the candidates sad

I was deciding between bean

I was deciding between bean bag and vent mount. I decided on vent mount from ebay as I've used one for my old Magellan 3250 before and worked well. Vent mount was within easy reach and seemed sturdy for that model. I will test out vent mount for Garmin 350 when it arrives next week. Currently I am using suction mount on left edge side of the windshield as the center location is too far to reach and had too much glare and couldn't see the screen.

Well, you can be happy that you don't have to ride with the candidates in your car everyday.

i just bought my 2 beanbag mount. been using one for 3 yrs.

Beanbag Mount

I ordered a Garmin and a Bracketron Nav-Mat beanbags. The Garmin with the post attached was made better. The problem I had with the garmin was that the 4 legs that stuck out from the center, overlaped the depression in the dash. The nav-Mat fit like it was made for the car. I also bought an after market "Port GPS Mount" to use with the bag. Garmin should use it instead of the one that comes with the Nuvi. I bought all from Amazon.
