Shri : Nuvi 660

Got one...

Whatever price they go for, the beanbag mount is an awesome option. I picked mine up from tigergps.com for $33 +S/H (should have waited for the price to go down) and I love it.

Pick one up at these sale prices if you haven't yet!

Like Shri I bought from Amazon… (and some off topic comments)

Amazon had the best price/shipping that I found a few days ago and I took advantage of the free "Amazon Prime" deal for two day free shipping. No big deal for a buck difference.

Now, if it had been more…?

I used one of these with the 660 that I bought at BB to test on our trip to Sedona. The mount was a very handy accessory, but I returned the 660 so I'd be able to take advantage of the price drop when I learned that the 7xx series was about to be released.

Good thing, too! I ended up with a 680 for $479 from Costco and should be receiving it shortly. I'm comfortable, knowing that I have three months to return it if the 680/760 debate convinces me that I'd be better off with the 760.

From my experience with the 660, I'd say that the 760 doesn't fix the major issue that I had with the 660, which was the lousy detour rerouting.

I'm pretty much resigned to this problem, since in all other design areas the Nuvis seem to surpass any other designs.

oh well, sigh!

Garmin Beanbag mount

That is a good buy. I just got my Nuvi 660 from Best Buy's Black Friday sale and being in California, I needed a dash mount because windshield mounts are a no-no. Best Buy's price is $41.99 so I shopped around at stores and found the lowest price at Fry's for $29.99 so that I can use it on a trip the next day.

Garmin Beanbag Mount

Does the beanbag mount eliminate vibration like the windshield mount?

Mine doesn't vibrate in my

Mine doesn't vibrate in my SUV all the time, but the rougher the road... It doesn't slide or move around at all, however. I like it much better than the suction cup mounting.

Beanbag

What is it you don't like about the windshield mount? I have not had any difficulty with it, but other people have told me to get the beanbag mount because it is so nice to use. I guess I am not clear as to the problems with the other mounting. I have had it only for a few days now.

For some reason, hot or

For some reason, hot or cold, mine would fall down once or twice a week. I cleaned the windshield multiple times. Plus, I just don't like the unsightly ring that gets left behind and I don't want to have to clean it off every time because it leaves a tell tale clue that I might have a GPS in the car/glove box. The bean bag mount can be stowed with no trace left behind, like a "spit ring" or dash disk.

Bean Bag

I've tried the suction mount, which is O.K. but hard to remove sometimes. The vent mount is a little wobbly and can be hard to mount depending on the style of your vent. I like the bean bag - You can throw it anywhere and it stays where you put it. Quick and easy.

Yup. Last line says it all.

Thanks for the comments. I guess it gives you more flexibility.

beanbag

I just went to the Dell website and they called it a friction mount is it the same thing as what you have been calling the beanbag mount?

I've seen it called that

I've seen it called that before. Make sure you see a picture of it. You need to get the one that comes with the arm and ball for the Nüvi cradle.

I think I read somewhere that the Street Pilot 2XXX series bean bag is not compatible so beware. THIS is the one you want.

Thanks again

Beanbag

After looking at this and other mounts for my Nuvi I have decided to go with this mount.

With my driving though I can see it either ending up in the backseat or near the windshield of my vehicle, lol.

The big advantage of the

The big advantage of the friction (aka beanbag) mount is that it's so easy to move. I never felt comfortable with the windshield mount in sight when I left the car-- seems like an invitation to thieves. With the friction mount I just stick it on the floor under the dash. Plus it's easier to move between cars too.

racing, anyone?

It seems you're the first one to use the beanbag in a race car smile

I ordered one for my Nuvi 660 on 11/25/07 from Amazon for 27.99. I'm still waiting.

Friction Mount

For info, I have used a couple of friction mounts for previous Garmin units and have noticed that they lose their stickiness after a while and will start to slide a lot. You may need to find something to apply to them to get them sticky again.

I picked up a generic friction mount for my Nuvi. It just has smooth central area where you attach the suction mount. It can be used for any item that uses a suction mount (gps, cell, pda, etc)

I guess the bean bag will be better for nuvi owners as it is lighter.

Where did you buy it?

Hi, quackinup:
Where did you get your generic friction mount? What brand? How much? Your experience was that it can be used for multiple devices. that really interests me. Thanks in advance for your info.

Dell price is $26.99 with free 3-5 day shipping

I just ordered one at that price and the next shipping option was $13.00 for two days making it a no-brainer in spite of having to pay a little sales tax.

I consider my windshield a target for thieves with the windshield mount always attached to it and am concerned that they would get in a take my GPSr, my radar detector, cell phone, tennis racquets, spare sunglasses, chewing gum, and gloves off my front seat. Wife says to leave the windows down.

Follow-up: There was no fine print to read. I just checked the Dell confirmation page. Estimated shipping is 16 days from now.

Suction Issues

I have had an on-going problem with my Nuvi 660 and the dash mount.
The suction cup mount keeps letting go. Garmin has sent me two replacements, but both have the same flaw. I think the 660 is too heavy for the suction dash mount provided by Garmin.

Don't be scared by the price, I got it for less than half that price at gpscity.com, just used that link because it has better pictures of it.

That's a pretty simple, straightforward design. My wife sews, and I bet she could make me on for less than $5. What is inside for weight? Sand? Lead shot? Or can you tell?

Friction Mount Beanbag at Amazon

A Garmin Portable Friction Mount (bean bag) with an embedded Nuvi compatible mounting arm is available at Amazon.com (010-10908-00) currently for 26.46 + free shipping. Amazon reviewers give it a great rating. So, I ordered one. Let you know how it works on my smooth dash.

Anyone know a good cheap source of the Dash Disks (temporary and permanent)?

Catching them is an art. My

Catching them is an art. My g/f's 330 is forever flying off her windshield suction mount. I think I should get her a friction for Christmas.

Anyone out there using the Belkin friction mount for a Streetpilot 330?

Great because of Sun Glare

As I have said in other posts, in my opinion, the Nuvi 350 screen is garbage in bright light and is useless when I ware white and the sun hits me directly from the through the windshield. In that case the screen washes out completely.

I bought the beanbag and it is a MAJOR improvement because as I drive I can reposition the unit for the best view ( it still stinks but less so )

I almost never use the screen and rely almost completely on the voice of my friend Jill

.

I have been using the beanbag for several weeks now and for the most part I like it a lot. The only problem I have is that my dashboard is steeply sloped and when I drive over rough roads the beanbag moves towards the windshield.

Maybe it's the GPS telling me that this is where it really wants to be smile

Other than that it's great and easy to hide when leaving the car unattended.

I wanted the bean bag looking one, but I got the spider looking one. The way Amazon described it, that was the only one that would fit my C340.

Awesome beanbag

Love my beanbag, perfect for my nuvi 760 and doesn't slide at all and easy to put away to hide it. And looks great too!

I love my beanbag as well.

I love my beanbag as well. I liked the windshield mount but I was tired of removing it everytime I parked somewhere. This is so much easier.

WOW... gotta Love Garmin !

I use the beanbag mount exclusively with my 2730 AND my much larger 7500 and have never had a problem with them moving around on me.

I like the beanbag mount because you can grab the entire unit and hide it or take in the house or hotel room and it leaves no trace whatsoever that you have/had a GPS in the car.

Bean Bag Mounts - FREE!

Hey, If you live in one of those states that don't allow the windshield mounts, talking to Garmin may find you with a discounted or FREE bean bag mount. Either way, these are great mounts and worth the purchase.

Jackrabbit starts

I believe in getting through an intersection quickly... and I do. DW calls it a jackrabbit start. Oookay.

But... the beanbag has never left the dashboard. I have turned over glasses, sent things flying off the dash... but the ole beaniebag just sits there. Not once has it left the dash on it's own.

As to vibration... I drive my truck on rough roads. When my Nuvi was on the dash mount, I noticed some vibration... not much but some. It was annoying. Which is why I started looking at other mounts. I bought a vent mount, didn't like it at all. and then bought a beanbag...which I love. For me it cured what little vibration I had.

Any idea about best deal for 680 charger?

I have got two mounts but only one MSN charger so every time I want to use the NUVI in second car, I have to move the charger. Any good deal with or without MSN receiver?

I have the StreetPilot 7200

I have the StreetPilot 7200 and was told to avoid the beanbag mount because the unit was so top heavy. I went to e-mount.com and got item # 93-01-430-230J which is effectively a heavier duty, same thing.

anyone use this with a vw?

Hi -

Anyone ever use this with a 2003 jetta by chance? My dashboard is not exactly smooth, wondering if this will suction on to the dashboard or does it use a adhesive? Not sure what a friction mount is..
