Nuvi 650 vs. 680

Seeing as Costco has the 650 at an incredible priice I am considering the 650 over the 680. What I would like to know before I buy is how good the Bluetooth functionality is on the 680?

Is the incoming number easy to see on the 680?
Is it easy to dial using the 680?
How is the sound at listening/hearing through the 680?

Any other comments?

Thanks!

I can only anwser for the 680 which I have had since they first came out. The incoming number is very easy to read. When the call comes in, your cell phone will ring, and then up comes a screen on your 680 that says who it is and do you want to answer or ignore it. You just push the icon and you're connected. As far as the listening, it comes through the GPS speaker loud and clear, or you can put it through your car speakers. I let it come through the GPS. I have asked others how I sound on their in and some report it sounds perfect and others say it sounds like I'm on a speaker box but they can still hear me loud and clear. As far as dialing, it's easier than using your cell phone because the screen is bigger. There is one icon to call home, or you can use the contact list and press which one you wish to call. I however, use the cell phones feature to just say "Call Andy" and when it respondes it then goes through my GPS, all hands free.

Add the external microphone

There is a great, big popup that comes up when a call comes in with the name from my phonebook and two buttons - Answer and Ignore.

Dialing is super-simple as well. Either dial from the phone and hear/talk through the Nuvi, or hit the phone button on any POI or waypoint.

I bought the external microphone from Garmin and it sounds crystal clear now. It came with a super long cord to run from the dock, through the dash, up the pillar, and clip to the sun visor. Hearing was alright through the FM transmitter (as good/bad as MP3s are in your vehicle), but I also bought an adapter to connect the headphone output straight to my car stereo and also sound better.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Nuvi 650 Vs. 680

I did an extensive comparison between all the high-end Garmin models and think that the nuvi 680 is the way to go. Its a steal at Costco. List was around $900 and the lowest price I found online was around $600. Then I found it at Costco for $479.99. Done. Purchased it. I have an Apple iPhone and was amazed how well the 680 integrated with the iPhone. The call coming in is very visible. The Bluetooth functionality on the 680 is great and when you incorporate it with the FM transmitter, its makes the iPhone experience that much better.

My 680 is suppose to be here tomorrow (Tues). What I am wondering is, when transfering poi's from my computer to the 680, do you have an option to send to the memory card OR internal memory? Right now, I have the 2720 and the files go directly to the internal memory, since it has no removable card. If possible, I thought I would save the data card for maps, mp3's etc.. BTW when transferring mp3, does it go to a special folder for music or something or is everything just sent to the data card and it figures it all out?

Thanks all! Now it is a

Thanks all! Now it is a matter of 680 or the new lower price on the 660 on the BF chance.

Go 4 it!

The only difference between 660 and 680 is traffic allerts' service providers: 3 months free Clear Channel TMC (660) over 1 year free MSN Direct (680) -> your choice.

When you connect it to the computer, it will show up as a device with removeable storage. If you have a SD card installed that will show up as well, each will be assigned a drive letter. When you start up poi loader you will have the option of where to send your files.

I have a separate mp3 folder, within that artists folders, and within that the songs. All mp3 functions and displays work as advertised.

There are probably other ways to set it up, I just followed how the samples were done.

ps if you run into trouble, state if you use mac or pc

Actually it is more a question of whether or not I can grab the 660 on BF at BB or if I should take the bird in hand of the 680 at Costco! LOL
