gmapprom.img

Like an idiot I mistakenly deleted the gmapprom.img file from my 200W. Garmin is sending me the file on a disk thru the mail in 10 days. Is there another way to get this file to copy/paste it in the unit?

Unless it's a huge file, maybe someone with a nuvi 200 could send it to you.

In the computer world there are three things we are told to always do ... backup, backup, backup. I would suggest that when you get your new file you make a full copy of your GPS to your computer.

Good luck.

That file is likely 1.9 - 2.0 GB in size and is the detailed map file.

Yep

Ya, it's too large to send ... probably copyrighted anyway. Best to wait for Garmin.

Backup as RT said, and then

Backup as RT said, and then backup the backup!!! My computer is backed up to daughter's, then hers to my wife's, and then my wife to mine.

The detail map for the 200 is just under 1GB.

The detail map for the 200 is just under 1GB. The 200W is probably the same file.

And you are correct, Glenn. The map file is between 0.9 and 1.0GB. I wasn't thinking one thing and typing another.

Bigger the better? Not always :)

To the best of my knowledge, most (if not all) Nuvis have 2GB of storage space (for little under 1GB of gmapprom.img file, leaving plenty of room for other goodies like POIs).

On the contrary, my very first Magellan Roadmate 700 GPS (that I had purchased for almost $1400 back in 2001 and had updated the maps 3 times for over $100 every year) had 30GB of hard drive for the 2D maps.

Having mentioned that, my 486 DX2/50 with 128MB of RAM and recently updated with the greatest (yeah right) Windows Me was probably the fastest machine on the block at that time as well. Did I mention that I had a very cool 17" CRT monitor? Finally, my Nokia brick phone was really an eye catcher smile
