POI tools

Being new to the forum and the topic of POI creation, I'm looking for some advice as to the availability of software on the Internet that I can use for this purpose. If there are any worthwhile sites I can check out, I'd appreciate suggestions.

poi software

Go to garmin. com and download "poi loader software". That is of course if you have a compatable garmin gps. It's located under "support".

.

Take a look at the getting started and faq sections via the links at the top of the page.

You don't need any special software to create POI files.

You can use Notepad and save the file as a CSV.

The format is as follows.

longitude,latitude,name,description [optional]
etc

Then once you create the file, as noted above, you will use POI Loader to load them if you have a compatible Garmin unit.

The easiest thing to do in order to see the format is to download a file and take a look at it.

Checkout gpsvisualizer.com

Checkout gpsvisualizer.com. Among the many free utilities are calculators at http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/calculators, finding geocodes at http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoding.html, elevations at http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/elevation just to name a few. Most of these have a batch function as well. Spend some time on this site and I think you will learn alot. . . I did!

Why would one want to change a gpx to csv?
Poi loader will load either one and change to poi.gpi
The problem occurs when people directly, copy/paste, drag/drop a gpx file into the gpsr or data card without using poi loader. That's when it gets incorporated with the "Favorites".

Maybe I missed something.
