(alerts) with Restareascombined file?

I checked a number of the Rest Areas, Turnouts here in Florida with that file, with the Proximity Alert set at 1 mile and I always got alert exactly at 1 mile in agreement with roadside signs.

I know the proximity alert can be set up to 25 miles.
I set proximity to 2500. Maybe that is too close?

What would be a good proximity?
Should it be set differently for different types of POI?
Say for files with campgrounds?
Say for hospitals?
Say for gas stations?

And along those lines... my garmin already has some POI's in it... how do I turn on the alerts for them?

I set my proximity alerts for 5280 ft. since in most cases I am travelling in the 65-70 mph speed range . This allows me time to read the alert and get into the proper lane without endangering myself and other cars.
My personal choice!
The built in POIs cannot have alerts without selecting that POI, pressing "GO", and following the GPSr instructions to get there !
I set other alert distances in accordance to the speeds I will be driving in the type area they will be in. (in general)

I set mine differently, depending on what type of POI it is. Speed/redlight cams, about 1/4 of a mile. Others, such as say a restaurant, perhaps a mile or two.

Say I have this poi file...
I run poi loader (latest version)... and set a proximity on it of say 1,000 feet. No mp3 for the file is loaded.

Now when I run my Nuvi... and "Jill" and I are bopping on down the highway... and we come across one of the poi's in the poi file that was loaded...

Assuming the point is on the road... ahead of me...

What should happen?

1. Should "Jill" announce the point ahead at 1,000 feet?
2. Should I just get a "bing-bing" from the Nuvi?

"Jill" doesn't know anything about your alerts.

You will hear the "bing-bing" if the alert is set properly.

And you will get a visual alert on the GPS screen.

Aaaah.

Now I understand the need for the mp3 files! I have been beating my head against the bricks trying to get "Jill" to tell me of poi's in the poi files I have loaded.
