Please suggest a PDA with GPS feature

Hi all,

I'm looking for a new GPS. Can someone please suggest me a GPSr that has:

1) Pocket PC based PDA, so I can store contact list, calendar, etc.

2) A GPS, preferably with newer chipset (e.g. SIRF II or better).

Thanks.

Can't help you on the PDA because I prefer the Palm OS. I use a simple $40.00 bluetooth Gps I purchased from Geeks.com with my Palm TX and it works excellent for its intended use. The one I purchased has been replaced by what appears to be this one.

It locks fast and I have never had any issues with it. I found it to have a reasonable charge time and it comes with all the needed cables etc. I have not attempted to use it with my laptop at this time so I cannot comment on how well it works in that fashion.

I have used it with a variety of software to included Mapopolis and Tom Tom and it does a great job.

Whatever PDA you choose I would suggest it having Bluetooth and Wifi capabilities, you may also want to consider a smart phone.

Good luck in your purchase.

PC Mobile GPS

You might look at the Pharos Traveler 525+ http://www.pharosgps.com/products/all-in-one/PTL525P.htm

They have a new version that also includes a phone.

My son has the 525+, and he likes it.

Why not PDA phone?

I would suggest a PDA phone so you can put GPS software on it and use existing data link on the PDA phone to connect for additional feature, such as TomTom. For the carrier, the cheapest for the data will be Sprint (3G), followed by T-mobile (2.5G), Verizon (3G) and AT&T (2.5G). For Sprint, the Mogul is the latest and best among all carriers. Verizon will be releasing the same phone in the near future. For GSM and models are a bit old and currently there is no 3G (will be in the near future).

Replace phone every 2 years.

Thanks you all for your responses. I would like to not have a GPS as a phone since I tend to replace a phone every 2 years.

Any PDA should work

There are products for both Palm OS, and Windows Mobile. TomTom works on both platforms, and Emtac works on Palm OS. You would need a GPS receiver but it will work on both Palm and WM. I recomend either a Palm TX with TomTom or Emtac, or a Dell X51V with TomTom.

Also, you may be able to find a Garmin unit that was a PDA with a biult in GPS on ebay. I never used one, but I heard good things about them.
