Garmin special at Costco

If anyone is interested, Streetpilot C580 is on sale for $349.99 + S/H until September 24 (while supplies last).

What I liked about buying my Nuvi from Costco is that if you don't like it, you can get full refund including S/H from any local Costco stores. And because this doesn't (not yet) fall under their new 90-day electronic policy, you are covered as long as you own the unit (meaning if it breaks, you can return it for full refund).

I purchased a c550 in July

I purchased a c550 in July ($449.00)for my birthday/fathers day present. They are a week apart. My wife fell in love with my "new toy". She recently received a position at her job were she will now be traveling. A friend told me about the Costco sale and I just joined Costco this past Sunday to take advantage of the sale. I'll get the 580 since I work in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be able to use the MSN Direct. Some of the outline states thatmy wife will be traveling does not have coverage.

Now here is the question. You said "the unit is covered for as long as you own it" Is this true even after the factory warranty?

Why Costco doesn't offer extended warranty

kradovcich wrote:

Kirk,

That's the best part about buying from Cosco and why I buy many of my stuff from them. Until recently, their policy was that anything you bought from them were 'Satisfaction Guarantee' as long as you own it and have a valid receipt. I've seen people bring back washer/dryer that looked like it was bought couple of decades ago and they gave them full refund. My friend purchased a steamer several years ago and it died few weeks ago. He took it back to Costco and they gave him his money back. He then bought another one from them.

Recently, due to the fast pace of high-tech products (such as TVs, digital cameras, PCs, camcorders, etc.), they reduced the guarantee of these electronic products to 90-days (if an electronic product will fail, statistics says they'll fail within the first 60 days). Currently, GPSr are not included in this list. So if it breaks in say 2 years, you bring it back to any Costco (make sure to bring your receipt) and they will give you back full refund, no questions asked. If you order products from their online site, you can still take it back to any Cosco and they'll even refund you the shipping and handling.

Costco warranty

Traveler,

You just made my day. The $50 membership to Costco is cheaper then an extended warranty from Best Buy. We just received the C580 yesterday and I'm just getting it unpacked. My c550 free traffic alert just notified me that its subscribtion is ending soon. Now with the 580 I get a free year on MSN Direct.

Next on the list, learning how to add and categorized POI's.

Thanks for the info....

Text-to-Speech a Big Plus

Couldn't agree more with "zch888". For all those considering a new GPS, the text-to-speech is both convenient and safe. personal opinion: "Must Have"

Instead of looking at your GPS to determine which street to turn on, the TTS will tell you, thereby allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road. This is especially true in the cities where many of the streets are close together.

Just try driving in Boston, and figure out which street (more like alley) you should "Turn Right in 200 feet). smile

Right now Costco online has the Nuvi 250W for $299.99. If I didn't already have a C340 Streetpilot I would get it. Hmm, do I really need two GPS'es? See http://tinyurl.com/2ce9m6

I took advantage of the 250W deal. I figure it's a good price for an entry level GPS, and since it's Costco, when I decide I need to upgrade to one with text-to-speech, I can return the 250W. smile

Acourding to the Garmin web site, this unit does not speek the name of the street.

For a wee bit more...

For $100, Costco will also give you 2% back on all your purchases once a year up to $500 as well as other benefits. Not touting Costco but those toys add up and you cannot beat the deal. Costco always does seem to carry good quality products. I did not know about the GPS unit having a greater than 90 day money back warranty. Good info.
