Does the POI Loader install all of your custom POIs on the SD Card by default?

No

If you have the Garmin with the SD card connected to your computer, it loads on the unit by default.

You can specify to load on the SD card, however.

Exception: If you ONLY have the SD card on your computer slot, and don't have the Garmin connected, then it will load on the SD card.

SD Card

To avoid confusion, I renamed the SD card to "Garmin Card" so I can always tell where I'm loading POI's.

SD Card

I use a 2gb SD card, which has a large capacity and I have had zero problems with it.

I don't have my nuvi right now, or I would test it myself. But I can swear that I have loaded pois on my nuvi card while it was in the nuvi.

I have also been able to put them on a flash drive WHILE the nuvi was connected. I actually did that by accident today.

save ti nuvi or card

when you plug in the gps if it has a card it will read that there are two removable drive one is identified as the nuvi drive and one as a card or name if you renamed it. You can then select to save to either one you want to. If you put the card in the pc then it will show up that way also and you can then save to it there. that is how it works on my 660

trying to clarify

Yes, you can do that, and I load my POI files on the SD card all the time while it's in the Nüvi. But the POI Loader usually shows the Nüvi unit as the target (i.e. "default"), and I need to click on the drop-down menu to select the SD card.

I sometimes load a G-rated POI file on an SD card in the computer slot while the Nüvi is connected to the computer. In this case, the POI Loader shows three choices in the pull-down: the Nüvi, the SD card in the Nüvi, and the SD card in the computer slot.

Now I'm getting confused. shock

Oh ok, I thought...

spider_elliott,

Gotcha, from the way that I read it, I thought that you were saying that you could NOT transfer POIs to the nuvi sd slot.

Also...you said, "When I load G-rated POIs..." Are there X-rated POI files? Would they be the gpXXX extension?

G-rated vs R-rated, or multiple SD cards

asianfire wrote:

Touché! Never thought about the gpXXX extension part. grin

Seriously, nice thing about loading the POI files on different SD card is the way I can swap them.

I have one I normally use, which pokes fun at certain businesses and make insulting remarks as I approach my ex's house. This is what I call the R-rated one.

But those comments aren't appropriate when I have my kids or business associates in the car, so I simply swap the "G-rated" SD card, and I'm good to go.
