Copying MP3's and JPEG files to my Nuvi 360

I just can't seem to find the following in any great detail in the owner's manual. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1) When I copy files to my Nuvi 360, either to the unit itself or to a SD card, do I have to copy the files into folders named "MP3" or "JPEG" in order for the unit to be able to recognize there are other files there that I wish to have it pull up?

2) If I have multiple levels of subfolders, will the unit know to look all the way down the file structure to pull up the files? (ie MP3\ROCK Music\Queen\*.mp3)

Thanks in advance.

The short answers are maybe and it depends.

The common suggestion is to create a garmin folder on your SD card and an MP3 folder and a separate pics folder and put the files in those folders. However, others have reported success in putting the files directly in the root folder. Personally, I have it the first way and not in the root.

Many people have reported problems on some units with multiple layers of subdirectories for MP3s. Others have said that they don't have problems.

However, since the GPS unit reads the track tags and pays absolutely no attention to the folder structure, there is no need to have a complicated folder structure.

Make sure that your MP3s are tagged properly and the nuvi will organize them according to the albums, artists, and genres as appropriate.

In general, nesting MP3

In general, nesting MP3 files in deeper subdirectories seems to pose no issues. I personally don't go deeper than one level deep.

However, I did notice that the Nuvi sometimes "chokes" when it sees "strange" filenames, namely characters that are a little out of the ordinary. Also, some operating systems (like OS X) create "invisible" files like ".DS_Store" which are used to keep track of things like positions of the icons in the windows. The nuvi sometimes chokes on these too. But not all the time.

My solution has been to force all my filenames to be alpha-numeric and hyphens, with no spaces, and remove the .DS_Store files in all directories. This works all the time.

I have a nuvi 360. I am able

I have a nuvi 360. I am able to have multiple sub-directory for my MP3 without any problem. I change all the "strange" mp3 files names with more regular ones.
