NO DON'T!!!!!!!!it is

NO DON'T!!!!!!!!it is running @ 3.4MB/sec and is over 1 hr to download. Must be a million people updating

Saw it before I saw this post...

Updating my ancient nuvi 3490. Still working as it did way back when. The laminated glass screen has issues around the edges...visible when it's powered off but it's not noticeable while powered on & in use. I'm driving a lot less now so no need to upgrade a unit that I'm used to and works just fine.

I'll wait until tomorrow

I'll wait until tomorrow to update my DS76, because I'm lazy and don't want to go down to my car just to get it. My other three (soon to be four) units that are in the house are gonna get theirs a little later.

DS66 - could see new map in

DS66 - could NOT see new map in GE, got warning firmware had to be updated to 7.90 first. Small, fast download.

After that was PIA as DS66 had to reboot to load new firmware then turned off. Turned on in GE mode but GE could not see it and computer didn't either. Shut off & disconnected DS66, powered back up and DS66 still stuck in GE mode. USB did not load the DS66 at all.

Had to do a long shut off (15 seconds on off button) while DWS66 disconnected from computer to get it out of GE mode. Plugged back into computer & entered GE mode OK, map update then showed up.

No issue on d/l, took about 10 minutes (200mbps) and DS66 turned off, then on to load the new map.

GE did not see the new map on the DS66. Had to turn DS66 off, then back on, exit/reload GE and THEN GE could see the DS66 with the new map.

Why is Garmin so finicky?

Update

Garmin Nuvi 2450

Got It

I got it & updated on my DS65, NUVI2555LMT & computer.

No problems.

It would be neat if you could open Basecamp and maybe click on a tab to see roads that have been upgraded.

I'm sure that Garmin is working on that and it will be in the next version of Basecamp. ????

@GPSgeek,

Sure, maybe in the next life time. Last basecamp update was 3/2023! I dare say it's EOL too.

https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435

Fortunately mapsource still works a decade+ later. It's not without flaws, but I'm faster constructing a route within it than basecamp. It's seems more keyboard friendly too.

Thanks

Will install it sometime in the near future. Hoping that it fixed a lot of small inconsistencies that weren't worth reporting individually.

yup, maybe

One would hope Garmin are working on a replacement for BaseCamp since it's apparently no longer in development (according to our old friend Sussamb who moderates at the Garmin forums). Their online "replacement" called Garmin Explore is a sorry excuse for this type of program.

Here's wishing!

I updated the map with no problem.

Has the group lost interest in the large JCV files?

update.

The update is for new maps and you should update it if you ever use the device or else your roads and poi's won't be up to date.

Large JCV

No, I still need it. Hopefully HarryAR (or someone else) is still around and will upload it for us.

Used the WIFI to update✔️

So, tried to load Garmin Express on my iPad but it would not install.(??) So… tried the WIFI feature on my DS65, it prompted for a power connection (used my iPad for power), but then the update went flawlessly. Initially told me it would take 45 minutes, at 40 min It was showing 2 minutes that turned out to be 8, then the 1 minute took 3 so all in it took ~47 minutes.
Looking at my “installed maps” I have now
North America DEM (???)
CN North America NT 2026.20 Parkopedia
CN North America NT 2026.20 Foursquare
National Parks V3
CN North America NT 2026.20 All Canada & Mexico
CN North America NT 2026.20 All US
CN North America NT 2026.20 Basic 3D

GE not compatibe with an iPad

To my knowledge Garmin Express has never been ported for use on an iPad.

Updated

Updated on the Zumo but had to restart before I could install the files locally on my pc to use it in Basecamp. All seems to be working now though

No app even exists

How could it even run on the iPad in the first place without an app? AFAIK, there has never been a Garmin Express app for iPhone/iPad.

No iPad app

Everyone is right pointing out there is no iPad/iPhone app. I went to the Garmin site, there was an option for "Download for Mac" and I "foolishly" thought that included my iPad. My bad....

"You can't get there from here"

Thanks

for the heads up on the new map. Installed from Win 11 to a Garmin Nuvi 2598 with 16GB microSD card. I think this map update is smaller than the previous one (2026.10) on my Nuvi. Seems the used space on the microSD card is less than the previous map. Previously for 2026.10 it was 4.44GB used on the microSD card (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/54316), this map update 2026.20 its 1.12GB for some reason. Under 2026.10 the installer complained a 4GB microSD card was to small. Makes one wonder what they dropped. Strange. Shrugs.

For Windows users, don't forget to remove the downloaded map installer files if you no longer need them. See the C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\CoreService\Downloads directory.

On my PC, 2026.10 was 4.45GB. 2026.20 is 4.49GB.

Determining size from the install figures Garmin Express gives is a crapshoot because of the extras installed to the GPS such as junction view, 3D buildings, etc.

Re: map

Hey, it finally has my street on it. The street's only been there 5 years

32 gig card, and no room?

The map is fragmented into various areas, with no rhyme, or reason. Had to install it via map install, as express said I had no room left.

I think Garmin is trying to push out the older units from updates.

Yes, on my Win 11 PC, the 2026.10 map that was installed for Basecamp is slightly smaller in size than the Win 11 PC's installed 2026.20 map size.

Just thought it was strange that the amount of storage space, when checked using Windows File Explorer, used by 2026.20 on the Nuvi's microSD card was less (by 3GB) than the space used on the microSD card under 2026.10. Hopefully it was just more efficient map/POI optimization and out of business POI cleanup and not an error with the installation on the Nuvi 2598 and it's microSD card.

Updated 2495LMT

Updated my 2495LMT just now. Waiting to see if someone will post the large JCV before updating my 1390T. No jcv files on the 2026.10 map install. Don't want to lose the junction view, I'm pretty sure there are no small jcv files included with this new map install either.

Thanks for the info

Updated Nuvi 2455LMT and 2555LMT

Updated both units over the weekend. No issues and took about 35 minutes each from start to finish. Now we just need to take another trip and test them out cool

Thanks for the heads up about new update!

Out of storage?

Juggernaut wrote:

I disagree, since my 3760, 3790, and 3550 all updated without a problem and each of them is around 15 years old by now.

When Garmin Express shoots the map over to devices, it actually is broken down into two parts. One contains the US while the other has Canada and Mexico. If your internal storage isn't large enough to handle the Canada/Mexico map that could explain why you had to resort to using MapInstall.

My three devices I mentioned above have sufficient room for the Canada/Mexico part of the map.

Don't be surprised if there is NO large JCV file.

Basic (i.e. non-photoreal) junction view is dead and buried. This is why so many devices lost junction views when 2025.20 was released. Split-screen photoreal junction view files are shipped out as normal. The status of full-screen photoreal junction view files is currently unknown, but based upon a file manifest for North America 2026.20, I anticipate full-screen junction view files to also be dead and buried. The miniscule ones in the nüvi 1100 - 1400 series were discontinued with 2025.20, so it makes sense to me that the large full-screen junction view will also disappear.

I would like to be proven wrong.

With no JCV files at all...

...I am really regretting having upgraded the map.

--
Ted - Garmin Nuvi 1450 LM

The split-screen file should

The split-screen file should work on a device with full-screen views, but it would be stretched to fit, which makes it look rather fugly. I'm going to have to try this out on my 3760 to be certain. Especially if I'm unfortunately right and the large full-screen file has been consigned to the dustbin of history.

EDIT: Well, that was unexpected. A stock 3760 came with full screen junction view images according to multiple reviews. My 3760 had no problem using the split-screen junction view files from its sister 3790. Even better, the image wasn't stretched, unlike the 1100-1400 series. This means Garmin could have fixed the full-screen junction views in the 1100-1400 series with a firmware update, had they chosen to.

When each map update comes along, I smile when I see that my oldest device, a nuvi 750, installs all of North America but I frown that my nuvi 855 no longer can obtain any piece of City Navigator NA using Garmin Express. rolleyes
