Route Shaping doesn't work

I updated on my DriveSmart 50LMT. When was the "route shaping" feature introduced? It's not working for me. All touches on the screen are "invalid." The old way, using the trip planner map, worked well.

My hack is to create a custom avoidance rectangle to exclude streets you don't want in the route.

I did do a "hard reset" and it still didn't work.

Creating more electronic waste

Pretty sad that all these companies are doing the same thing. Making more money by selling you a new one and creating more electronic waste. A few examples, Windows 10, Windows 11, YouTube app on older Samsung tablets, Samsung smartphones with no updates after 2 years. And of course, Garmin removing jcv's on older devices. sad

Bitterness over feature loss? Maybe justified, but...

If your device had full-screen junction view, then it's at least 10 - 15 years old. It's likely lasted far longer than Garmin ever expected, and despite that they have provided you lifetime map updates for all those years. So how is THAT promoting e-waste?

Garmin isn't a saint here, let's be clear. But their actions throughout the years to me are not designed to promote e-waste. Unlike Microsoft, who arbitrarily cut off anyone not running an 8th generation Intel processor or later with TPM module. THEIR actions promote e-waste: they want you to buy a new computer.

Garmin? They took out a feature but aren't telling you it's time for a new GPS.

Regarding The "Large" Junction View File ..

I no longer use my old nuvi 755T, but updated the map to 2026.20 more or less to satisfy my curiosity. As with previous map updates, I received two "large" JCV files with this update:
D9673070A.jcv 747 MB
D9674070A.jcv 77.4 MB

I ran a route in simulation mode to verify that the junction views were still showing with the new map and that they were indeed the full screen photo realistic views. They were.

As far as I know the only two device series that still get the full screen photo realistic JCV files with the map download are the nuvi 7x5 series and the zumo 665. Garmin stopped including the large JCV files on the nuvi 1xxx series a long time ago, although I am guessing they will still work on these devices if manually copied to the SD card.

Thanks!

...for letting us know the large JCV files continue to get updated for some.

I hope that they will be made available to those who no longer get JCV files.

Slow Map Updates

Thank you for the notification about the new map updates. My download speeds are 300K-400K if I am lucky. AT&T and Garmin both stink as far as download speeds. Download time remaining is 4-5 hours with 5.8% completed.

Thank you.

Thank you for the confirmation regarding full-screen junction views. It might stop the wailing and gnashing of teeth because Garmin dared remove junction view from multiple devices.

Because I don't have either device you mentioned I had to go off a manifest I saw on another site regarding available files for 2026.20. Fortunately it no longer affects me as all my remaining devices except my 3760 receive split screen junction views. The 3760 doesn't receive junction view files at all but can use the split screen files from my 3790.

Funny, until a few days ago

Funny, until a few days ago I have been reluctant to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Windows 10 support ends in October this years so I kind of had to soon. I have some older programs I was afraid would no longer work, well it was painless and so far everything I was concerned about still works.

That said, I updated my Garmin Drivesmart 61 and it too was painless. With Windows 10 it was very difficult to get Windows to see the Garmin via a hub. I didn't want to have to 'unplug' a bunch of things to use a USB slot directly on the PC. Windows 11 recognised it right away, no problems the update, which lasted about 20 minutes.

. 2 Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S, Nuvi 2689, 2 Nuvi 2460, Zumo 450, Uniden R3 radar detector with GPS built in, includes RLC info. Uconnect 430N Garmin based, built into my Jeep. .

Again???

Seems to me I just updated maps quite recently. This isn't a real good time for it as my router seems to have taken a dump. Connected directly to the modem at the moment but no printing, no TV streaming, no Alexa access, etc. Hopefully I can get things working again and then do the update as we are planning to leave for a couple of weeks quite soon. Thanks for the heads up on the maps as one never knows if an update will have an impact on an upcoming trip. Two old nüvi 760 units to update.

Updating this weekend

My trusty 3597

Nuvi 3597 LMT

great

update!

.

Just bought my first car to have a screen and car play/android auto. Now I can use google maps. Not sure if I’ll keep my garmin up to date it retire it.

Good improvements

Fixed a few addresses being off from where my 255W claims they are.

I updated

the new Garmin Drive 53.

Seemed fast to update, and I didn't see the map on my laptop hard drive.

Go to use the Garmin, and the car is driving on no road at all. There were no streets and no map.

Bizarre.

I reset the device and now it had a new car icon and streets/roads. POIs still installed, not missing.

I don't want to spend too much time on this but that never happened before on the 2350. Just strange. And the 2350 took hours, this updated in a short time. Maybe something just isn't right, dunno.

Sounds kind of odd. I would try reinstalling the new map and see what happens.

I can only go by the evidence of my eyes. Both my 3760 and 3790 had no problems with the update once I dropped MicroSD cards in both. The 3760 did lose junction views, but I dropped the 3790 JCV files into the 3760 and all is good.

Took a while but no issues updating.

In the grand scheme of things, Garmin is impressive

Having a 10 year old GPS still get the latest map updates shouldn't be taken for granted. If JCV is important to you, don't update. Look at the way TomTom and Magellan went with their map updates, Garmin is the best in class for ease of use and GPS support. My old TomTom just doesn't get updates, period, even with an SD card added on.

Large JCV for 2026.20

Thank You HarryAR

Thank you HarryAR for posting the large JCV files. I greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again, HarryAR!

I cannot express how much it lifts my spirits when you so dutifully support us old users and our old devices.

I just took a simulated, 250 mile trip, and the large JCVs files worked perfectly.

Bless you!

Thank you HarryAR.
I greatly appreciate you posting the large JCV files for my 1450.
Now if I can just learn to not (unknowingly) transpose the folder name from the necessary JCV to the mistaken JVC. Once I discovered my mistake, it finally worked.
smile lol.

Thanks

Thank you for letting us know about the update. Installing it now.

Updated my 1390T

Finally got around to updating my 1390T. Thanks again HarryAR for uploading the large JCV file. smile

NUVI 58 LMT

Problem is Garmin has removed the lane assist and JCV options from their newest maps for certain models. When i bought this unit some years ago i was excited about these new features. It`s a big disappointment. Is there a work around?

Yep

Buy a current unit.
