Nuvi 68 - large JCV problems with 2025.20
Tue, 11/26/2024 - 5:45pm
Hello everyone!
Updated Nuvi 68 to 2025.20 and got the large JCV file (D9673050A.jcv).
Unit connects fine to the PC in Mass Storage mode. File is in .SystemJCVD9673050A.jcv
Now, after simulating some travels, I don't seem to get any large junction views as I did previously. All the highway exits nearby used to pop them up, but I don't see them now.
Did I misplace the file? Do I need the smaller JCV file as well? Perhaps the exits are so simple to navigate that they removed the large views?
Any help or ideas are appreciated. Thanks!
We have a FAQ on this
The nuvi 68 cannot use the large Junction View file. Not only is the device hard-coded to only recognize split-screen junction views, it does not recognize photorealistic junction views - as found in the large JCV file - at all.
You need to be using the JCV file downloaded to the device from Garmin Express when you updated the map.

I did update the Nuvi 68 in Garmin Express, but I can't find any .JCV file anywhere in the folders. Maybe that explains why I don't even have th split-screen junction views?
.jcv file
The .jcv file is normally installed in a folder named JCV which is in the hidden .system folder. If you can't see the .system folder then you won't be able to find the .jcv files
Instructions as to how to show that hidden folder are here

Remove the Large JCV
Your map update should have installed the correct jcv file(s) so if you simply remove the manually-installed Large JCV file that won't work with your nuvi, you should see the split-screen JVs.
Here's the FAQ mentioned in this thread:

If you did find and delete the jcv files installed with the map update, you'll need to reinstall the map update.
I reinstalled the maps using
I reinstalled the maps using Garmin Express, Nuvi 68 works fine with routing and such, but I don't get any split-screens at all...
There are no files in the .System(slash)JCV folder...
I wonder what's going on here
Thanks for trying to help, Craig.
JCV
I thought I had a link for the proper JCV file. I don't.
Regarding your issue, the Nuvi 68, unless sorely mistaken, requires a MicroSD card to fit the map. The JCV file may be stored on the MicroSD as Garmin Express tends to ignore the internal storage when updating maps if it detects a MicroSD card.

As mentioned, your nuvi 68 likely needs a microSD card. Garmin’s recommendations seem to be vague or conflicting so I would suggest a class 10 32 GB card.

Vague and conflicting? Most definitely. In general, ANY Garmin with a MicroSD card slot will accept up to a 32GB MicroSD card, regardless of what Garmin mentions in its help documents. Garmin does specifically note the current DriveSmart units can accept a 128GB card, but at this moment what device requires such a large card?

Are you sure? I don't have a MicroSD card in the Nuvi 68 and there is some free space left...
I might try it, maybe it's going to make the split-screen views reappear
Thanks all for helping me out on this.

Having a bit of free space on the device itself does not mean you can install a file, especially if the file size exceeds the available free space on the device. To be honest, I think you are likely long past needing the memory card. Even my nuvi 265 from 20 years ago needs a memory card to properly update maps.

I just added a 64 GB microSD card, and tried to reinstall the maps using Garmin Express.
The device still has 1.7 GB free space, and did not offer to reinstall the maps on the card.
I'm not giving up... does anyone else have a Nuvi 68 lying around that could validate if their split-screen .JCV file is in the hidden system folder?
Check the format

Check the format of the memory card. It needs to be FAT32 and a 64GB out of the box isn’t likely to be FAT32. More likely exFAT.
Just as a point of interest, a few people here recommended 32GB. Why did you get 64?

I resurrected this thread, because this is rather important. Troudelafee's issue with a missing junction view file is because of Garmin.
For 2025.20, Garmin upgraded all older devices eligible for map updates so they could receive all of North America instead of the previous Lower 48, Lower 49, or US and Canada. So from that point on, all devices receive all of North America. What Garmin didn't tell anyone is that select devices were stripped of their Junction View files.
This is a downgrade. It doesn't impact usability of these devices, but it's still a downgrade.
Based upon the source YouTube video* where this was discussed, and based upon the list of devices here on the Factory, if your GPS predates the introduction of the Drive and DriveSmart lines (2016) and is still eligible for map updates, Garmin may have stopped pushing the junction view file to your device when you update the map. Check your devices.
While the source video's creator provided a list of devices he believes lost junction views, I can only confirm that my essential series devices (2x nüvi 40LM, 1x nüvi 57LM, 1x nüvi 65LMT) all lost junction view. However, my nüvi 3550LM from 2012 still has its junction views. Based on Troudelafee's comments regarding his nüvi 68, Garmin is no longer pushing him a junction view file.
One last thing. This is deliberate on Garmin's part and not a bug, because my 65LMT, upon being updated to 2026.10, did not get a junction view file. So, I will be giving up my nüvi 65LMT, not that I needed it anyway with a DriveSmart 65 as backup to my 76.

Thanks for the update.
Thanks for the update and the YouTube link.
So can we revert to earlier map?
I just joined POI factory and have a lot of catching up to do.
Can those of us who lost SPLIT SCREEN JCV view revert to an earlier map set or are those files no longer offered?
Garmin doesn't offer older
Garmin doesn't offer older maps at the same time the newest map is available. You would have to rely on an illegal download of a map, and even then there's no guarantee the junction view file you need would be included.
The easiest way to go here is for an owner of a Drive unit to upload their junction view file so it can be downloaded: this is legal according to Garmin. The Garmin Drive series devices do not use photoreal junction views. The nüvi devices that lost their junction view capability use the same type of junction view file as the Garmin Drive series. Since junction view files are not locked to the device like the maps, you can restore junction view capability by copying the Garmin Drive junction view file to the nüvi internal storage.
Just to clarify, junction view files from a DriveSmart device or nüvi devices not part of the Essential series will not work.

Excellent news, thanks. I
Excellent news, thanks. I will look to see if the split jcv is available, I only found discussions about the Large file so far. Like I said above I am just getting into the GPS unit world so I have much research and bookmarking to do yet. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
You're not going to find
You're not going to find much discussion regarding the lost junction views as many of the devices that are encountering it are no longer in regular use. It doesn't occur in any Drive or DriveSmart unit, and it's actually a crapshoot as to whether an older device lost its junction views or not. In fact, regarding the large junction view file, if you update a nüvi 1100 to 1400-series device - which uses photoreal junction view - to the latest map revision you will lose junction view. The only reason those devices can get junction view restored is that one of our members offers the full-screen junction view from their nüvi that still gets the full file.
I just checked my primary source of illegal map downloads and the photoreal junction view files are available for download, but nothing else. You could bring the lost junction views up with Garmin customer service, but when I tried it I didn't get far, and that's probably because knowing me I didn't ask the right questions.
