Transferring files from Nuvi1350 to Nuvi 1450

My Nuvi 1350 failed due to the USB power port. My daughter gave me her Nuvi 1450. I have used POI-Factory files over the years successfully.

I managed to transfer the redlight-camera.csv file from my computer to the Nuvi1450 unit. I noticed that the Garmin POI-Loader changed the file on my computer from csv ending to following Redlight-camers.csv.gpi

Since I delete these older csv files and install the latest Redlight and speed camera files.

Thanks,

John

POI Loader

Yes, POILoader changes csv (and gpx) files to a gpi file. Double-check what's on your GPS. It should be:

Redlight-Cameras.gpi, not Redlight-Cameras.csv.gpi

I assume it was a typo and you forgot the 2nd "a" in cameras.

It appears that you changed POILoader's default filename of POI.gpi and that's OK.

I'm not sure if you are just reporting what you did or if it's not working and you want advice.

Video on USB port replacement

If you desire and have the tools there is a good video that covers the repair of the port as well as battery replacement at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQrUM2iUz_8.

Another tip, if you use a windshield mount, don't allow the excess cord to hang from the nuvi. This puts the weight of the cord onto the USB port which can be a cause of the failure. Once the unit is mounted wind the excess cord around the device several times. This removes the weight of the cord from the port and allows the mount to bear the weight. On my unit I get about 5 turns of cord around the device in its mount.

You're right, It was a typo. How do I check what file is on my GPS?

John

Connect it to PAc

Assuming you are using Windows, when connected it should be treated as a hard drive in Windows Explorer. If you can’t “see” it report back as there are a few things you might also have to do such as set Windows to show hidden folder and files.

The 1350, since you think it has a bad USB port you shouldn’t be able to “see” but truthfully it would be worth a retest once you establish communication with the 1450. Sometimes surprises do happen.

By the way when you hit “Post comment” do it only once so you don’t end up with multiple posts and threads.

Transferring files from Nuvi1350 to Nuvi 1450

John,

I did watch how to repair and resolder the USB Port. I managed to get the unit apart, however, when I got it back together, I got press the dots that moved along the screen endlessly. I must have damaged the ribbons going from the screen to the GPS mother board. That's when I switched to the Nuvi 1450.

I still use the bean bag device. The problem over the years for me has been the bracket cradle wearing out. Once Garmin stop selling them, I purchase them off eBay. I would order them 2 at time. The last purchase the 1st unit work but failed. The second unit wouldn't fit the 17mm bean bag ball.

I talked to Garmin and they told be the the windshield device and the bean bag ball are both 17mm. I ask an eBay seller if the 1450 windshield unit he was selling if the cradle could be removed or replaceable. He said they don't sell individual bracket cradles and that he didn't know if the cradles were removeable on the 1450 unit.
So I walked away.

Transferring files from Nuvi1350 to Nuvi 1450

I found the following GPS files on my E: Drive:
Garmin - Has RLC locations
LEX_PKG
GPX
Help
Jpeg
Keyboards
POI - It has 2 files: RedlightPOI.gpi & Speed-Cameras.csv.gpi
Text
Vehicle
Voice

Also the following on the F: Drive
Garmin
Map

The following files On Nuvi 1450
GPS
Extras
Custom POI
All Categories
BBQ
DINERS, Drive-ins and Dives
National Historic Landmarks & Places
Redlight-Cameras
RestAreasCombined_USA
Speed-Cameras

The above POI files I had stored in one folder on my computer.
But, they appear twice under the Custom POI on my Nuvi 1450.

The question is how do I delete the duplicates?

First off, you mention seeing this file:

Speed-Cameras.csv.gpi

POILoader should have converted Speed-Cameras.csv to Speed-Cameras.gpi

If there's really a Speed-Cameras.csv.gpi file and you're using a Windows PC, you may have double extensions. The POI Factory FAQs discuss the problem with double extensions and how to avoid them by changing Windows settings.

A possible reason you're seeing POIs listed twice might be from your use of POILoader. By default, POILoader takes all your csv (and gpx, if present) in your folder with the POIs from POIFactory and creates a single gpi file called POI.gpi with all POIs. But I also see that you've at least twice changed the default file name for Redlight and Speed Cameras, each with their own gpi file. If the redlight and speed camera files are also in your POI folder, they will be duplicated, once from the POI.gpi file and once from the unique Redlight and Speed Camera gpi files.

You could delete all the gpi files you see in the GPS, both the GPS device and any SD card, then confirm that your GPS has no custom POIs, then re-run POILoader.
