Garmin LMT2557 unable to connect to Garmin Express/PoiLoader

I tried today to update my POI files, but I could not connect.
I tried 3 different cables, one was a Garmin cable.
All cables are able to charge the device.
I even updated Express to latest version.
I'm running Windows 11.
Anyone have a guess what is wrong?

From the Garmin forums

Use at your own risk, but over at the Garmin forums some people with similar GE/Win 11 issues say the following will work.

Quote:

Close Garmin Express down from the task bar if it is sitting there! (So it is removed from task bar!)

Go into your PC Drive (C)/Users/yourname/AppData/Local/ then delete the two folders here:

1. GARMIN;

2. GARMIN_LTD_OR_ITS_ SUBSID

THEN:

Reinstall Garmin Express and log in. I had to register all my devices again but this solution worked for me. I did not need to restart my PC.
Hope that helps?

Mounting as Storage

But does Windows show the Nui as a storage location after you connect it to the PC? Might take a minute or two for Windows to recognize and mount the GPS as a storage device (and it's SD card if it has one, as a storage device).

If Windows is not mounting the Nuvi. You could check the Device Manager in Windows to see if there is any sort of USB error preventing the Nuvi from being properly mounted.

Easy way for Windows to recognize Garmin

In Garmin Express, delete the affected GPS.

Unplug the USB cable.

Restart the computer.

Restart the GPS - not just sleep.

Connect the USB cable.

Wait 3 minutes. In the lower right corner of the computer screen, watch a popup that is an indication of Garmin device drivers being installed.

Go into Windows File Explorer to see whether the GPS is now visible.

Open Garmin Express to see if it has recognized the GPS.

Easy Way For Windows To Recognize Garmin

Thanks for all the ideas.
None of them worked.
I bought a new Drive 53 instead.
Only downside was having to manually add all my saved addresses.
It will be interesting to see how they have change trip planning and using routes.

Hmmmm ...

So even Windows Explorer didn't even see your device? If it did there was no need to manually add all your data to a new device as you could have copied it all across. If Explorer didn't see your device I would guess that the port on your nuvi has gone bad.

Likely correct that there is some form of problem with the USB port, That fault, although not common, has occurred and is well documentated. A good repair video exists at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDqh_1c7vyM. I will say it isn’t a difficult task to repair the port, given the tools and perhaps a replacement part.

A tip in this regard, don’t let the weight of the excess power cable hang in such a way that it places force on the port. I suggest taking the excess and wrapping it around the mount (after mounting the Garmin). This removes much if not all of the weight of the cable from the USB port.

very good charlesd45!

Very good, charlesd45!

And all those sleeping USB ports are (not) charging the Garmin GPS dead batteries. Get a wall charger!

Thanks....

This info is helpful.

common problem on older Garmin devices

A common problem on older Garmin devices was broken solder connections on the USB connector. I had a couple of them.
Obviously, if the data line is open, nothing will happen.
However, there are other things, H/W & S/W, that might do the same thing.
I assume you can plug other USB drives into the W11 port and they work.
So, yuou eliminated the computer.
You might try moving the connector around on the nuvi to see if you get a reaction. That would be a positive indication that it is the connector, but not that it is not. The only way to tell for sure is to open it up and resolder those connections.
