How to force Garmin Express to use already downloaded map

As the title says. I have multiple Garmin devices and the first one I always install on device and computer. How do I make Garmin Express use the already downloaded map instead of redownloading it again on subsequent devices. Yes I have it checked for device only.

Similar, but 9 years old

A similar question was asked on the Garmin forums about 9 years ago. See the thread at https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mac-windows-software....

Similar to that thread, about 5 years ago I purchased for some employees about 12 nuvi 2689s. At the time I was familiar with the update process and contacted Garmin with the same question. The answer at the time was essentially every device would require the lengthy process although the first download would be the longest. Not really sure if that was the case.

It will

Subsequent device updates will be faster as they will use the downloaded files where applicable, but there are still certain files unique to specific units and there is also the time required to compile those already downloaded files into a single .img map file that a device uses, or even 2 .img files in some cases now.

Am I wrong?

I seem to remember something that by doing that you loose certain features which you get with a direct download, can't remember what though.

Well ...

Believe you're thinking of installing map to your computer and then sending map from there to your device, you miss out then on numerous files that your device needs, including junction view

That may be it. Initial device takes about 1 1/2 hrs. Subsequent devices about an hour.
