Release notes 7.12.1.0

Supposedly the following:

Multiple improvements for Music Management.

Resolved a crash for Marine users if they changed location while on the Chart Updates page. [As a former Naval officer, I can’t help but add that the Marines need all the help they can get when it comes to navigation.]

Other minor bug fixes and improvements.

Something not right!

since the new GE Version, SD card from 660 will no update correctly!
MAP DOWNLOAD IS SEEN AND DONE, BUT: It Screams Right Past the Quadrant selection, since SD card can no longer support the full Update....

Renamed files on SD card will NOT Be Recognized by the 660 afterward!

Have attempted this 5 times now! (Yes! I renamed files afterward!)
Tried after restart and shutdown... Same... I believe it's trying to load the full update on SD card -- That won't work!!!

I'd Love to go back to prior version GE to confirm this!

how to?

Bad Garmin!

So I uninstalled Garmin Express.
Restarted Windows 7
Went so far as to delete GE folder in Program Files(86)
Downloaded GE ‘Fresh’
Installed LATEST GE.

Plugged in SD Card

Started latest GE, which found SD Card as new device.
Configured as new device

It realized a new Map upgrade was available, and I said install it!

AND AGAIN, GE DID NOT PROMPT TO SELECT A MAP QUADRANT, AND IS NOW, FOR THE 6TH TIME…….
LOADING THE ENTIRE MAP ON FAT 32 SD CARD!!

BAD GARMIN!!

Thanks for the heads up

And AGAIN, GE comments at

And AGAIN, GE comments at end of download that I'm up to date!

Looking at this, and prior SD card (Thankfully I alternate between 2 SD Cards!!)
Today's Fiasco measures 3.81GB in size
Prior one (Mapped for SE USA) is 1.86GB in size

Today's 6 downloads, renamed, or not, Never are seen in MAP INFO on 660.....

If I can find a way to go back to earlier GE, will do so... but this one is a real Turkey!!

@JandJ Try making a /garmin

@JandJ

Try making a /garmin folder on your SD. Copy the garmindevice.xml file from the unit's /garmin folder to same folder on the sd.

Disconnect garmin from the computer. Run GE. It should recognize the SD as the garmin device and install updates to it. You can then move various files to the unit if needed, but keep the main data on the sd.

I used this trick in the past with the DS61 and DL50 to keep wear/tear on the internal flash to a minimal.

New GE

Thanks for reminder!

Thinking that that could be

Thinking that that could be the issue, I copied the Garmin Directory from the SD card that has the previous map (That Works) to brand New 16GB SD card...
With just the Garmin ID file in Garmin directory....

found 7-11-1 GE and installed that....

It sees New SD Card, as it did the last.... and sees it needs a map update...

It downloaded the new MAP..... AGAIN.... Bypassing the option to install a quadrant of map...
Downloaded Map is 3.81 GB again.... And the NEW SD card in 660.... It gets the green bar where it sees new map, like before but does not scroll across 660 screen.... And SD CARD MAP is not seen.... By Map Info...WOW!

??????

Try MapInstall

Another method you could try is to update the map to computer only, then use MapInstall to install separate regions to internal memory and SD card. You would have to manually replace the map files from the previous version with the files created by MapInstall.

Thanks.. More to report:
I use a Packet Sniffer Program that has been known to do a false block... So I disabled it and tried new SD card again...

Again it downloaded full version, and did not give option to do partial maps.... So it's not packet sniffer Program....

So now will uninstall GE yet again, and try to clean up remnants....

This time I deleted

This time I deleted everything in Garmin directory (Program File (X86) ) Except PIO Updater....

Then Installed LATEST GE....

Again it saw the SD card as 660... Again it said Map update was available....

And AGAIN it did not prompt that Partial Map was needed.... It's installing full map (I Assume, now!)...

I will next attempt your suggestion to install on computer then partial install on SD Card....

Is Map Updater a separate Program to Install? Never done that before!
EDIT: downloading Mapinstall now...
EDIT: installing map to computer.

Alan... Mapinstall doing

Alan... Mapinstall doing it's thing now....
One last question...
Do I have to rename the files ON THE SD CARD FOR 660, like before, or good to go as named?

GE Version 7.12.1.0 (For Windows) Now Available

yupp Got it

Mapinstall worked!!??Don't

Mapinstall worked!!
??

Don't know why GE didn't.....

660 continues on!

PS: DID NOT have to edit names!

WHOOPS!! NOT QUITE!!! Road Texts not correct...
Buckskin Road becomes B....... R.
That's how Road names are resolved...in latest map

Maybe this update is for larger screens only, and that's why road names are truncated?

MapInstall

Glad it worked for you JanJ. It will be interesting to see if the next version of GE corrects this issue for you. I suspect Garmin doesn't do much testing with these older units and they probably aren't too motivated to put much effort into fixing problems for them.
