Garmin Express restore issues (data missing)

Device: DS65
Recently factory reset my DS65 in attempts to get the map update to populate in GE. This got me nowhere, requiring garmin to flip a switch on their end to make it work.
Before resetting, I used GE to backup user data from the unit (in hopes of restoring it after the map update/reset).
All that was restore were the "SAVED" items and trips (in tripplanner). Other data such as recents, trip log, and probably other content did note restore.
Manually reviewing contents of the backup folder, that data was definitely there in the form of several gpx files - esp trip logs. There was also a sqlite folder with lots of content.
After restore failure using GE, I tried coping the files manually to their respective locations. Contents still missing after a reboot.
Others have similar experiences with missing data following a restore?

AFAIK, there is no way to restore a trip log and the other items you mention to a Garmin automotive device.
