Current Top of the Line NUVI ?

Hi All.

What is the current Top-of-the-line Garmin Nuvi ?

I haven't paid attention to most of the emails I get from Garmin as they seem to be aimed towards their watches.

Not much in the way of Automotive products.

Thanks for the help.

And Drive?

Are you just asking about the nuvi series, or will you include the various Drive series? If just for the nuvi series, I'd say the 3597.

Top of the line units.

HI CraigW.

I will include ALL units that can be used in a vehicle. Nuvi and Drive series.

Not even sure of what the differences are between the two.

Thanks.

I had to check

I had to check the Garmin site. I'm a bit surprised that currently the only automotive—ignoring the motorcycle, truck, RV, offroad, etc. devices—are the Drive and the DriveSmart so I'd say the DriveSmart is now the top of the line of non-discontinued automobile devices. There are three flavors of DriveSmart, with six, seven and eight-inch diagonal displays; and two of the more basic Drive models, with or without Traffic. MSRP: $100 to $350US.

My thoughts. Given the limited usefulness of FM traffic, if thinking of a Drive, I'd go for the one without traffic to save some money, assuming you have a smartphone that can add much better traffic to the "non-traffic" model. My second thought is that none of the current automotive models use a powered mount so if I was looking to buy a Garmin, I'd look for a refurbished or used model like the nuvi 3597 or the DriveLuxe 51. The DriveLuxe 51 has some issues so the old nuvi 3597 may be my vote for top-of-the-line. cool

This perked my interest as I currently have older 259X models. I'm not surprised that Garmin trimmed down their different lines and models to only basically one "Drive(Smart)" line.

To me, always felt Garmin's weakness was live traffic. Guess not much could be done to change it.

I would like..

A "I remember"shortcuts. If "I" deviated more than a few times along a particular part of a route, there might be a reason.. Remember it!

Leaving my home, invariably Garmin takes me the long way out of my neighbourhood.

And, make the features/algorithms work as they were designed. That "Street Ahead" thing is still far too often wrong.. skipping several main streets/avenues and labeling a minor one.
