Excellent

Just in time for spring break travels.

What are you people talking about?

The 2022.1 maps on my Mac are 4.51 GB.

I'm not seeing the 7GB+ maps you folks are talking about.

I believe they are

I believe they are referencing the downloads for the older type units that get the Large JVC file. Split File units probably have a file the size you are seeing,

Surprised!

Connected my old nüvi 760 to add an audio book for a trip to visit our son, daughter in law, and second youngest grandchild. Got a popup saying my maps were seriously out of date. It was the day after this notice was posted but I hadn't seen the post. Pretty fortuitous timing! Updated both of the old 760s.

GPSMAP 76CSx - nüvi 760 - nüvi 200 - GPSMAP 78S

Updated

It warned me that the internal memory was too small, and gave me an option of either installing onto a memory card or installing a partial map.

I tried partial map option, and selected U.S. and Canada. It seems to have installed just fine.

Missing Where To Shortcuts

Notice that with the map update's size forcing me to use a microSD card in my Nuvi 2598, that post map update all the shortcuts that were previously in the Where To screen disappeared. Now only icon there is Add Shortcut. Worse, I cannot set a Home location now. No matter what address or location I select it isn't saved. sad

That's certainly not normal. Could it be that your 2598's memory is almost full? So there's not even a Recent or Saved icon on the Whereto page?

Have you tried a full power-down, then restart? If that does nothing, unless someone has a better idea, a hard reset might be in order.

All On SD

Did you load all on the SD or just partial? If you did partial try reinstalling with the ALL on the SD card so that the unit memory isn't filled up.

Full Memory

CraigW wrote:

Definitely due to the map update and full internal storage on the Nuvi 2598. Was there before update, gone after. The internal unit memory is basically full.

This is what the Where To screen looks like post map update, just an add shortcuts icon and that's it:

After some fiddling with the 2598, finally got it to save a Home location and added it as an icon to the Where To screen. My other saved POI's are still there (under the Saved option on the Where To screen), so at least I don't have to recreate those.

Default Map Install Options

phranc wrote:

Used the default options in GE when it prompted that I needed additional storage due to full internal memory. So it appears it dumped as much of the map update as it could to the internal memory then dumped the rest (approx 487MB) to a 4GB microSD card. Internal memory of the 2598 is showing approx 5.35MB free of 7.05GB.

Will test the unit a bit more to see if anything else changed or is an issue before doing a reset and or reinstalling the maps to the external storage. Will need to dig up a larger sd card if I go the reinstall to sd card route.

Went fine

All went well with the installs.

Reset

Reset fixed the missing icons on the Where To screen and on the Map screen information dialog window where one can select to display traffic and other information.

Updated my GPS' and just in time for an Easter road trip!

Guess I'll Load the New File

I'll go ahead and update my GPS ..... Now if I just had a need for it out on the road!

Vaccinations are going well, but we still need to use caution!

Maps updated, street and new hotel location still missing!

There have now been two updates since I first uploaded a new POI file for Ayres Hotels in SoCal (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/50886) back in Sept. of last year. The street for their newest location right off of the main thoroughfare W San Marcos Blvd in Carlsbad/Vista (near the Palomar Airport and Legoland) is still missing - so trying to "Go" and route to it ends up with a dashed magenta line to an empty lot through a back alley, according to the map! I decided to submit an update request, and found that NavTeq has been re-branded to something called "HERE", so I submitted through the Garmin web site, since it also involves an incorrectly plotted TripAdvisor rated POI in the map's business database. Will wait and see how long it takes for the update to appear, now that I'm sure they know about it.

Finally, thanks for the

Finally, thanks for the info. There have been alot of business that went out. Hoping they updated the built in POI

Updated both our...

2455 and 2555 units. Started with the typical GE update to 7.4.1.0 with no problems. Yes, had to turn off the "Always run in background" setting after update.

2455 took 55 minutes from start to finish. 2555 had a hiccup about 50 percent of the way through the download. Simply closed and restarted GE and the d/l picked up at the 50 percent mark where it had stopped at. Had left pc working away on the update and the screen timed out. Never had this cause a problem before...heck I'm not even sure it is related to the issue. Anyway 2555 updated with no problem after that.

Garmin is getting much better about cleaning up files on the Nuvi units after the installation. No old SID, JCV or SQLite DB stuff hanging around after install. That's good because update took about 800,000 MB more space this time.

Ready now for our June trip smile

have to run get my units,

have to run get my units, thanks

...still leaving potentially GB's on PC

Thanks John from PA. Realized that but am not very worried about SSD space in laptop. More of an issue on Garmin. In fact, with 1.25GB free space left we might hit a limit if the next map update grows as much as this version did shock

Was thrilled not to have to go in and do a bunch of cleanup in the Nuvi. It's a step in the right direction for Garmin.

You realize that is 800 GB...grin grin grin

guess this just help prove that there's only three types of mathematicians in this world....those that can add and those that can't laugh out loud

Would go edit the mistake but the site won't allow it so I'll just sit here with a blushing face...ha...ha

Whoot Whoot!

Thanks for the update!

I updated my DS61 when the

I updated my DS61 when the update was first out. Just got around to updating my other 5 units this weekend. My wife has a DS61 as well. We both have a 2460 as a backup and when updating hers I got a message I've never seen before. GE saw and was going to install to the inserted SD card.

https://i.postimg.cc/zB9Rt0z4/asds.jpg (photo of message)

Did not happen with my Zumo's, could only get a small portion on the units and used Mapsource to upload the entire 2022.1 to the SC cards.

Nice Update

Been using the new map for a few trips. Everything seems good and might actually be a little smoother.

Costco issue

I updated the new map and it no longer shows the Costco stores in Nassau county. this is very strange and I don't know why they would eliminate a whole count.

Thanks

Large JCV yet

Has anyone seen the large JCV yet for this?

Yes

sethr wrote:

Yes, check through the Garmin messages. It's been available quite a while now although there was a glitch at the beginning about just how many there were and whether more than one was needed.

I will ask, though, with your nuvi 2597 and 2797, why you want the full-screen Large jcv file.

2022.10 JCV Download Thread

If, after reading CraigW's message, you still want the latest JCV file(s), here is the Large JCV file download thread: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/51263
