Large JCV File Download Link For 2022.10 Map (Edited)

In recent years the Garmin Large Full-Screen JCV file has always been downloaded as a single file that was around 830MB in size. Beginning with the latest 2022.10 map update the JCV file download changed from one to four separate JCV files with a more than 3-times folder size increase to 2.54GB.

I sent the following message to Garmin Support for an explanation:

“In the latest update, 2022.10, my Nuvi 755T downloaded four JCV files as seen in the attached image file. For the former Garmin update, 2021.30, my GPS downloaded a single JCV file, 851,474KB in size. I was alerted to the drastic JCV file size change when my computer showed a red bar that indicated my storage was near capacity.

When I opened my JCV folder, my former single JCV file (851,474kb) had updated to four JCV files that added up to 2,671,393KB in size. There was the expected file, D3060350A.jcv, that would follow in number sequence to the former D3060340A.jcv file, but there were three additional JCV files, D1279430A.jcv at 821,568KB, D2334380A.jcv at 227,567KB, and D2335380A.jcv at 771,230KB.

I'm wondering why my JCV file folder has grown more than three times in size from the last update. Is this JCV file update in both size and number of files an update error? Will you please explain why this drastic JCV file change?”

In a reply I received the flowing message from Garmin Support:

“As more information keeps getting added to the mapping, the files are going to continue to grow in size. The JCV files show images of major highways, exits, and merge lanes upcoming on a route. We continue to add more and more of these images to our updates and they are split up into regions to help make the device faster. It doesn't have to read the entire 2.6GB file to get the image it needs when they are broken up into several files. There is nothing wrong with the update, this is just part of increasing the abilities of navigation units.”

So, with the above information in mind, if you want to download only the single D3060350A.JCV file that I posted earlier the link is the same as before:

https://mega.nz/file/PkBWkRrb#UVw6Y4s2gV5cbMbIHJOj6_54UoIzlQ...

If you want to go with the Garmin newly sanctioned four JCV file downloads that include the following:

D1279430A.JCV 802MB
D2334380A.JCV 222MB
D2335380A.JCV 753MB
D3060350A.JCV 831MB

The download link to a compressed WinRAR download (no password) of the four JCV files is:

https://mega.nz/file/ukwU2RYY#bJQ4P16YXIdPQdkvavE4GCeq3P2ZIE...

Thank you so much

Thank you so much for all your efforts in trying to sort this mess up and uploading the large jcv file link.

Diiferent

I'm not sure this one works as it should. I noticed i had approach lanes now when i was on a 5 lane hwy to make me move over to the farthest two lanes. That stayed on for a long time but it was less than half a screen and it never showed the ramp itself i needed to go on. I know it showed that ramp before, but no approach lanes.
Coming home again no ramp exit pic just exit lane indicator.

Works for me

I just tested the file on my 1390T on 3 different intersections. The junction views all worked fine for me.

Which file?

Are you referring to the default split-screen JCV file that installs from Garmin with the map update or are you referring to substituting the Large "full-screen" JCV file?

oops

i guess i should have specified. I grabbed the large jcv and tested on my DriveSmart 65

Thanks again!

Downloaded, installed, tested, and backed up for the next time.

Thanks again. The large JCV is always appreciated.

About that large JCV file

With every release of a new map there is invariably discussion about a large JCV file. Just what is this and why would I want it? What would it give me that I don't already have with my nuvi 2689.

Hmm, did you already read the title of the FAQ? wink

Not right

I like the large junction view file, it made a difference on my 3790 and on my drivesmart 65.
I can't say it was worth it on my 2467, so i never used it. This version is not the same as the previous versions. I like the approach lane, it certainly stays on the screen a long time, but Ramps going onto or off the hwy seem to have changed. They used to show me a birds eye view if you will of the ramp but now i don't get that. Was it replaced in some cases with the approach lane arrows?

Ok so they are sanctioned but for what models?
No readme in the rar file. You certainly can't load all of them.

I just read the other post http://www.poi-factory.com/node/51259
Lol i get it but i don't want it now. What a headache.

Coffee

Ralph6410 wrote:

Then you took my advice and had a cup of TH coffee while reading it?

As a Yank, my favorite Tim Horton's memory was waiting in line for a cup of coffee in Whitehorse, Yukon, and in line ahead of me were 2-3 RCMP folks dressed in blue. I watched as they got their coffee to see if they added a donut to their order and they each did. Love of donuts must be at least a full North American trait of law enforcement. wink

Thanks!

mcginkleschmidt, Thank you for making the full screen JCV file available for those of us who would otherwise not have access to it. I downloaded all 4 files. The download was easy and worked exactly as expected.

I tested the D3060350A.jcv file on both my Nuvis (3760 & 3597) using various routes in the southeastern U.S. I then added the other 3 JCV files and re-ran the same routes. I did not see any changes to junction views after adding the additional files.

Since it appears that Garmin did not significantly alter the size of the split screen JCV file download, it does not seem reasonable that Garmin would have intentionally modified the full screen file download to include more than 1.7 GB of additional data.

Cofusing

So...the other day i had no junction other than lane indicators or approach lanes if you will and no exit ramp shown. Today in a different area i got full screen exit ramp view. I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm on a 3 lane hwy with a 4th on-ramp lane that ends the next exit which is maybe 1/4 mile away, which is where i'm getting off. It shows me full screen exit. Compared to yesterday where i didn't get that but instead approach lane arrows and no junction view. In the end its way different but i'm ok with it.

Multiple JCV Files

On another site, the following explanation was proposed and seems to be correct:

Quote:

It looks like the first 3 are regional JCV files...

D1279430A.JCV 802MB Canada & USA
D2334380A.JCV 222MB Canada
D2335380A.JCV 753MB Lower 49
D3060350A.JCV 831MB North America

Then was later confirmed by viewing image comtents of the JCV files.

JCV variants.

Thanks computerperson! That definitely makes sense and is consistent with earlier JCV variations we have discussed in the past.

Correct JCV file?

So for a nuvi 1450 what would be the correct (best) version of this new JCV file to get?

I usually just got the large one but now that there are these multiples which seem to total more in size, I'm not sure.

Do the multiple ones have more/better detail or more junctions or ??? to justify the big increase in size?

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the file.

Earlier in this thread, it was determined that D3060350A.jcv is the single file needed for full North American coverage.

Just place the file in the same nuvi 1450 folder as the Update-supplied jcv file and remove the small file that was installed with the map update. With each future map update, you will again get a tiny jcv file but more than likely within a few days, someone here will post the Large jcv file for the latest map updates. Older jcv files from older map updates will not work so to have a usable Large jcv for your 1450, this process will need to be repeated each time you get a new map.

Take Your Pick

Based on another post (seen above) and if the information is factual, there appears to be some duplication and overlap between the set of four JCV files. So until more information is known, it is likely that either the single JCV file (D3060350A.jcv) or the four files together will work. How much free space you have may be a factor in your file(s) selection. It will be interesting to see what JCV files or if changes are offered in next map update (2022.20).

Thanks for the upload

@mcginkleschmidt

For the JCV file copied from my Nuvi 755T that I uploaded to Mega/NZ, I performed a checksum test and my values are a match with your checksums.

Below are my checksums:

MD5

I did a couple more, SHA-385 and SHA-512, but the text extended past the page right margin and looked screwy so I deleted them.

Edit: The checksum was performed only on the D3060350A.jcv file. The other three JCV files were excluded.

Do you need the Former/Older JCV files?

With the new JCV files, I saw no need to keep up the former JCV file. If you still need the file, I can re-upload it.

It is yours for the asking. question If so, I'll keep the file posted for a while....and then I'll delete it again.

Hi Mcg

According to this the D3060350A. j c v file is for all of NA

OK, the download link for the single JCV file, D3060350A, is back up (not the link at the bottom of the original post) The link for the four JCV files is inactive, only the single JCV file link works.

Probably the newest file, D3060360A.jcv (830MB) associated with the new 2022.20 update, will probably serve the same purpose (guess).

Thank you McG for reposting

Just finished downloading the D3060350A .-jcv file to my harddrive.

Please be aware that the JCV file link posted in this thread is not the latest JCV file. This JCV file is the one that is associated with the former 2022.10 map version.

If you downloaded the JCV file using the download link in the first post of this thread to use with the 2022.20 map, you downloaded the wrong JCV file

To insure there is no confusion, the newest JCV file download link for the 2022.20 map can be found here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/51514
