Downloaded in a little over an hour on my 3597. Quicker than usual. Now on to the 3590.
The 3590 took about 30 minutes for the download.
Edit: There is one particular street that was changed almost two years ago and it is still not showing up on the latest update. I'm surprised since it is a busy city street and is used by the county sheriff since their office and the county courts and administration building is close to this street and it is pretty much used as a though fare. Waze had this on their maps approximately two months after the street was completed. It's surprising that Here has not picked up on this yet.

Looks like 7.47 GB is needed for full coverage North America on my NuLink 1695. My last install appears to take about 3.5 GB on my SD card (gmapupdate.img size). Don't see any install options for just lower 48 states. I guess I'll have to update from a 8Gb SD card. I can only anticipate all sorts of new data is included in this map update to account for double memory requirements and make it worth it.
Just tried your suggestion of reformatting but still no joy. I"m trying to do the update via a Mac computer for the first time, going to try again on a windows laptop and see if I get the same problem
P.S. I have the same memory card as you.
Same problem on a Windows computer, seems to not want to recognize the 32gb card, card is OK , works on the Mac and Windows. Went with just downloading Canada and USA.

Looking at what can be moved to a backup like the millions of different HELP files in various languages.
Eons ago my two Zumo 450 & 550 motorcycle GPS's couldn't fit the entire map. What I do is put the smallest area possible on the GPS itself and put the entire area I want on the SD card via mapsource, basecamp, whatever. Once done I simply chose to run the map that's on the card only. Never had a problem.

I replaced the sd card with a 32 GB card with everything copied from the old memory card. Old map and POIs all looked good and operational. I then started Garmin Express to download the new map and I get the same results, partial map load options. I don't know whether GE is checking internal memory for space... GE doesn't seem to give any options to choose where the map goes. I've been installing maps (and POIs) to a memory card for years and never had this problem. Any suggestions as to what may have changed or what I should try? I'm trying to get ready for a road trip tomorrow. If I can't get the new map, I'll stick with the old for this trip.
Just updated. Downloaded very fast 36 MBPS. The install took way longer than the download. I just noticed that my Garmin Nuvi 2595 is 98% full. I guess this update barely fit on my device. I have a really old 1gb micro sd card in it with pictures on the card.

Hey jollywally ... since we live near each other, if you aren't able to figure this out, I'd be happy to get together with you and see if I can help. With a 8 GB SD card, it should be possible to get a full NA install on your 1695. If you are interested, send me a PM.
After a map update, the previous map, and perhaps many previous maps, are left behind in the folder C>>ProgramData>>Garmin>>CoreService>>Downloads>>Map.

It should work unless it's a bad card. I'm using a 32GB Sandisk Extreme card in my 1390T and it works fine. Have you tried formatting it?

Had to update to 7.4.1. version of Express to do the 7.49GB download for my 2595. Install took about 20 minutes.
For the first time, Express said I needed a memory card to install the entire map
So, I decided to just install Canada and border states. It's not like I'm going anywhere anytime soon...
