All Installed

2021.10 is all loaded up already

Interestingly, Garmin Express Mac V6.20.0.0 worked, even though it is "broken" and can not update itself.

At least it is still getting online to do other stuff.

This is so exciting!!!!!

Thank you diesel

Just finished downloading, took about 20 minutes and no problems.

Thanks! 660 SD card

Thanks! 660 SD card done.....
Edit
Both 2689LMT’s are upgraded too!
And POI’s are updated on all 3!

2689LMT's have 220Mb Left after upgrade

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Got it

Only a few minutes to DL. Files to 3790 at a 'mere' 1.8 MB/s. Remember when that was a DL speed? You were flying!

Garmin Nuvi 2450

Started downloading on my 3597 at 1730 hrs.

It took about an hour and a half to download. The 3590 only took about 35 minutes to complete the download. Both the 3590 and the 3597 required a memory card and GE recognized that memory cards were already installed and went straight to the memory card. Apparently, this update has a lot more info on it. I know that with doing a quick check, several new road additions are included. However, there is one road that I thought would have been included but it is not on the update. This road was relocated and I thought that it would have been easy to include the road change. (Maybe the city submitted the change too late to be included.) neutral

Map update

Seeing that this update is so damn big I think a lot of people now will have to have a SD card in the GPS.

I guess a 16GB card would be needed now?

What should the card be formatted to? FAT 32 ?

Does it need a folder " Garmin" to install to?

Does a previous version have to be deleted from the GPS or will GE do that?

TIA

A 16 certainly will work but an 8 also could.

FAT32 is correct but most purchased cards are already formatted so why would a reformat be needed?

Map updates to SD cards installed into a Garmin device will auto-create all the folders needed so there's no need to manually create a folder.

From my experience, Garmin Express, when doing map updates, usually knows to delete the old map files however I've had some updates to a SD card where Garmin Express reports insufficient space on the SD card making me delete the old map files for GE to succeed in doing a map update to the SD card in the Garmin device. I've never researched why this occurs.

I updated a nuvi 3597 yesterday (with unneeded files removed ages ago but with all available English language voices added, so your 3597's 'mileage' may vary) showed 32MB of free space left ater the current map update so I expect the next update will force me to add a SD card.

Thank You

Just done in 71 mins. Your speed at 20 mins is so fast sad

I think it only occurs if you've done something different. If Express has installed the map that's fine. If you've renamed map files, moved them, used BaseCamp to install them etc etc then Express won't touch them.

Hokie routing (no pun intended Virginia Tech fans)

After downloading the new update last night, I did a simulation run with the GPS. It routed me out of the way to get to my destination, (by about a mile). I am going to take it out today and run the route to the same destination to see if it was a fluke or if it is indeed a problem within the map itself. Stay tuned for further updates.

Thanks :-)

For the notice on the new maps. Updated. Also for those with small hard drives, remember to remove the downloaded maps and other files used by Garmin Express after finishing the update process to free up some disk space. Uninstalling older CN maps from BaseCamp also helps free space on small hard drives.

Some older information here for Win users on file locations.

...and it routed me the same way. I don’t know why it’s doing that. Up to this update, it routed me on a different and more direct route. We will see if it routes me differently after I have driven the route a few times.

Disappointed

Upgrade went just fine but am disappointed with the "new" which don't appear much different than the old.
Still have many streets that don't show on the "road ahead" bar at the top of the screen. It skips many major roads and will show some minor road off in the distance.
And.. there has been no new school zones added for several upgrades. They started with a few a couple of years ago.. then stopped.

alarming message

My 3597 update had been in the "copying files" phase for some time when it suddenly ended early (more than ten minutes before a recently forecast finish time) and displayed a Red box with the message:
"there was an error installing the update"
On the other hand, just below that message, there was a box cheerfully asserting “you’re up to date!” listing software version 5.50 and North America full Coverage 2021.10.

On first turn on after disconnect, it appeared to boot normally and asserted that a map update had been installed. The 3597 settings menu asserts that maps version 2021.10 are installed, and on first look, it seems functional.

Any guess what happened? Any advice as to what I should do?

At work I always have the GPS on, most of the time without a route programmed in.

Two things I can think of that may affect the up ahead street names (when not using a programmed route).

Maybe the amount of zoom you're using? Try zooming in a little more.

The other is I've noticed when driving on a road where a intersecting street is only on the left, the street name will not appear, if the intersecting street actually crosses the road I am on, or only appears on the right side, the name will appear (driving in the USA) in the up ahead bar.

With a route programmed in most of the time what will show on the up ahead bar is the next turn or "Driving on such and such street"

I think..

Part of the problem is the snap feature not aligning with the map coordinates. There is one street in Edmonton where this is quite apparent; 111 St Northbound towards 23rd Ave NW will skip 23rd Ave unless you are in the left turning lane, moving into that lane shows 23rd Ave ahead.. move out and it shows an Ave a mile up the road as next.
As roads are reworked and moved they are not necessarily re-mapped so the snap feature keeps you on the road.. but in essence you are driving in no-mans land where there are no intersections.

...three or four updates ago. It seemed to be a glitch or a gremlin in the download. I checked the map and everything was up to date and worked just fine. I don’t know why it did what it did but it only did it the one time. Maybe it was just the nature of the beast. confused

Downloaded and....

updated our 2455 and 2555 with no problems. Used an old Windows 7, yes Windows 7, laptop. D/L speed was a "blazing" 4 MBps but it worked.

Typical (for me) started by updating GE to version 6.20.0.0 then did Nuvi map updates. 2455 first and it took about 55 minutes, then hooked up 2555 and it took about 25 minutes. I don't get hung up on the D/L to computer thing since map updates are a 1-time thing for us, no BaseCamp stuff.

Now to go see how the routing works with new maps!

Good, will try it. thanks
