Since last iOS.

Sine this last update I have an issue on text entry of text only, not emails, where as you enter text the blue text position indicator on its own jumps backward in the message, putting subsequent text in an earlier part of the message.
I’ve seen it do this multiple times in same long message.
Don’t see it in emails or web entry, just text message.
Irritating.

I’ve waited many text messages before posting to confirm it’s not a keystroke or operational issue of my own.
Have not been able to come up with a key series to force it to happen.

Try a reset

See the content at https://appletoolbox.com/2010/08/mouse-or-trackpad-cursor-mo.... Although specific to 10.6, try the steps as best you can for a reset. This is not uncommon after an upgrade in O/S.

correct...the reason why I like Windows & Android!

Anyway, with iOS 12 came trackpad mode on all iPhones. So review https://www.cultofmac.com/557965/ios-12-brings-trackpad-mode... about how to use trackpad mode and see if there is enough info to disable or modify the behavior.

IOS 12.3.1 was just

IOS 12.3.1 was just released. Try installing that. While I don't see your specific problem addressed, it may help.

Further research doesn't show your problem to be widespread.

12.3.1 is where symptoms

12.3.1 is where symptoms started!

The symptoms are EXACTLY as described in that post, even though post is for laptop and I’m talking phone.
I have tried a power cycle.
Did one long text as a test. Didn’t see it since but it’s only one successful text.

Time will tell

Thanks John from PA. !!

At another website where I

At another website where I posted this info too., a fellow encountered this on his IPad, but not his IPhone.
Crazy!

Then I asked Wife if her IPad was doing that, too.
No, but it had not been updated....
15–20 min later..... her IPad was updated, and all APPs updated too........and long text was typed and sent with no odd symptoms.

Luck of the draw I guess!

Well well well!!! Today I

Well well well!!!
Today I received a pop up indicating 12.3.1 would be installed on my phone with 12.3.1 installed on it!
As I stare at it, trying to remember —-cause I swear I installed it a week ago....
And the update started on its own!!!

Let it go, cause by then I’m just shaking my head in disbelief..... and watched it do whatever it wanted to do.

It seems to have completed successfully.

But I remembered this thread, which confirmed I had installed 12.3.1 once already.......

No addendum to version. Still reports as 12.3.1

????????????

That is certainly strange.

That is certainly strange. Just checked mine. Shows 12.3.1, up to date. I wonder if there's a possibility that the previous update failed partially, was corrupt, or it's just the FM principle kicking in.

Could be...... Wife's 8+

Could be...... Wife's 8+ iPhone and iPad remained at 12.3.1 with one update... So your idea makes a lot of sense...

My 6+ has been OK since the 2nd update... (was OK after first one, too...)
