POI Alerts

While I'm not familiar with your model, one or the other of these pages might be helpful:

At Garmin, all about POI's, alerts, etc.:

Here, about alerts:

Setup?

Is it possible that the device's Setup/Sounds has alert sounds turned off?

hi
i did check the setting, proximity alerts set to ON. on the Montana I could make it, but my issue is playing the .wav FILE or.MPS. I added the speaker but it's giving my only beeps.

but on the 276cx I'm not getting any warning.

is this something what's on these units software or what?

Sound?

Two final thoughts, all based on the manual as I don't have a 276cx:

-You mention settings/proximity_alerts but what do you see for settings/sounds based on the link I provided earlier? I see sound settings for Beeper, Attention Tone, Voice Prompts, Language and volume. Maybe the custom POI alert wav setting can be enabled there.

-Since your alerts work for your nuvi 3597 but not the 276cx, then the alerts should be loading with POI Loader equally for each device and since the POI/alert works for the nuvi, then the files, etc. are correct and not the problem. If so, then either there's a setting for the 276cx that we haven't found yet, or the 276cx is not capable of playing custom wav alerts for some reason.

Whatever you find, please let us know your outcome.

One last thought. You mention wav or mps files and I think you meant to write mp3. If your custom alert sound is an mp3, it will not play on the nuvi 3597 and probably not on the 276cx since I see no spec for that device indicating that it has a built-in mp3 player like the very old Garmin units had.

276cx poi alert

on the setting >sound there's an option for voice prompt > guidance and status. I did enable but there's no option for custom poi. I think the software is not capable of reading the audio file.i've approached Garmin and I'm waiting for their reply. and will keep you updated.

I'm sure not the settings I've checked everything on the unit and I was one of the software testers for that particular unit.

Whatever you find, please let us know your outcome.[/quote]
I'll do let you know.

yeah, i meant mp3. yes I know it doesn't have the mp3 player but wanted to check every possible way.

276cx poi alert

hi ,

I've checked the settings all for both 276cx and Montana. I'm not sure what the problem is. I've asked Garmin and I'm still waiting for their reply and i can expect their as not supporting

Alerts

If contacting Garmin about using wav and sox.exe for voice alerts. Garmin does not support that and will not provide any help. One of our members came up with that process.

Disappointing Reply from Garmin

yes, Garmin couldn't help on this. and yes as you said Garmin is not aware of the sox software and they said to use the only mp3. they are providing only a theoretical verbal unusefull info. which didn't help. wast of time to contact them. i realized that the 276cx doesn't support proximity alarms. there's some bugs on the software which needs to be rectified.

Thank you all for your support.

volume of sound files

You may have to experiment to solve the problem. I have found that different Garmin road GPSs might need different volume sound files.

For example, a .wav file that produced a good volume proximity alert on a nuvi 760 could not be heard on a nuvi 3597. The .wav file itself had to be edited to raise the volume before it could be heard. It could be that your sound file is playing but the volume of the sound file is too low.

A GPSMAP 276cx is a different animal than all Garmin road GPSs. Just because the road GPSs require .wav files for sound does not mean the 276 will. It is entirely possible that .mp3 files would be needed, and at what volume?

Not to be overlooked are other tech specifications of the sound file: bitrate, stereo or mono, or others.
