Push gpx via wifi to Garmin WIFI enabled PND's

Given many of the new garmins support wifi for map updating, is there some way of access the internal storage via wifi?

No.

Unfortunately Garmin does not include any kind of file manager in their OS. The WiFi is used primarily for map and software updates. IMO, it is kind of a silly feature, as you probably want to have your device plugged into a power source during a map update so it does not lose battery and power off during the update. I suppose it is useful for those folks who only use mobile devices and don't have a computer to use for updates.

Indeed. I tried nmapping it

Indeed. I tried nmapping it but got nothing. Closed up tight. You are right about possibly needing a power source during the update. Last few devices I updated took an average of 5-10 minutes to actually push the map data to the garmin. Probably depends a lot on the pc actually sending the data.

Perhaps in a decade their devices will support usb 3 and allow for faster data rates.

It would be very beneficial to be able to push gpx files to the device over wifi. Doesn't even need a file manager, it could I suppose be a proprietary connection with basecamp. Now that would be forward thinking!

Also, the same could be accomplished via BT. Either method would save wear/tear on the usb port.

Basecamp.

Yes, a Basecamp wifi interface would be nice, but Garmin is no longer developing Basecamp, and there seems to be no interest on their part to develop a more modern alternative to Basecamp. They seem to be putting all their effort in the fitness devices.

Well ...

Smartlink enables you to push locations to your device from your smartphone .... https://gpstracklog.com/2012/06/garmin-smartphone-link-revie...

Maybe that would help?

Not quite. My gpx files

Not quite. My gpx files consist of full blown routes, with waypoints & vias. It's possible to string together a route from a bunch of locations, but at that point i might as well connect the usb cable.

as my point, USB is more

as my point, USB is more stable and useful

Route gpx files are

Route gpx files are typically very small in size, a few megabytes at most for complicated multiday trips. WIfi/BT would still be the perfect medium to transfer these.
