How to block the Windows 10 spring update, version 1803, from installing

With the spring feature update to Windows 10 (version 1803, build 17133, Redstone 4) just around the corner, here are the best ways to ensure you install it when you’re ready — even in the face of recent forced updates from Microsoft.

I take it as an article of faith that you don’t want to install the spring update to Windows 10, version 1803, as soon as it’s available. As we’ve seen, repeatedly, upgrading to a new version of Windows 10 as soon as it’s out leads to madness. For almost everyone, the new features in version 1803 — Timeline, a few moved settings, more telemetry options but not the one (“OFF”) that matters most, faster upgrades — just aren’t worth the bother of installing and setting up an entirely new copy of Windows. (Unless you really want Candy Crush Soda Saga installed for the umpteenth time.)

Thank You!

THANK You!
I've been using Windows since v 3.0 and I've never had such mixed feelings about a version. Win ME was just plain bad, I took a Linux hiatus around the end of XP/beginning of Windows 7, but I can't yet tell if I love or hate Windows 10, lol.

You got me realizing that much of my Win 10 hate is due to faulty, premature "feature updates".

Thanx again.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

By the way

By the way, this is very timely. I've just been cursing laggy response while editing a ton of POIs with EPE. As soon as I realized it was due to the uninvited "feature updates" download characterized by insane hard drive activity and poor internet performance, I read your post.

Hope I'm not too late to postpone the actual upgrade! .. have the article open in another tab as I type.

edit- Whew (maybe!). The activity/lag was from the 2018-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4093112).

.. still reading though before I dare restart. grin

@JD4x4

I hope it helped.

After the last update from 1703 to 1709, the install of 1709 put data checks on all the drives in my dad's system and he lost every single bit of data on every drive!

So I'm not letting them update his system for a spell

Many thanks. Deferred updates for 30 days. Don't know if it will help but can't hurt.

Seems like these updates may be a death knell to some if not many home brew builds....

If you get a box from your normal commercial supplier, it may not be so bad.

But then again...
