Removing Helpfiles from Garmin Drive 50

I looked in the help folder and found a ton of HTML files. I assume
I can delete them without a problem?? Any advice

yep ...

You can. You'll also find files you can delete in the EULA,text, voice and keyboard folders.

But...

In my experience, deleting the help, text, voice, etc. files doesn't free up all that much space. Those files are all extremely small. I'm wondering why so many here are quick to recommend deleting them.

On the rare occasion that a map file will not fit on my GPSr, deleting these other files certainly did not free up enough room. I must be missing something?

I agree

I doubt you're missing something...or maybe we both are. wink

I do delete foreign language voice files although I then go and add all seven TTS English voices to my devices leaving me with less space than I started with. Except for the older devices, map updates now can be installed to an SD card but if folks want to tinker and make the most free space in their devices, it's OK with me. A lot of our FAQs here were written to solve a problem that existed in the past and no longer are a problem includind the space-saver FAQ:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41876

but then, of the ten FAQs I maintain, I think three have outlived their usefulness for the most part.

PS: The above linked FAQ is really quite nice in being a great source of all the odd files that can safely be deleted and stating what the files do, etc. thereby leaving it to the user to decide what to do with them. In other words, don't remove the FAQ, jgermann!

Thanks for the info
