Nuvi 660 Battery Discharge Issue

Having a problem with my Nuvi 660.

The battery discharges in a short period of time even when the unit is off. Charges in a normal fashion. It's not the battery. Installed new battery, same issue. Reinstalled old battery, same time to discharge as with new battery. It's like the unit is not actually shutting down, but it is. Restart has normal boot pattern and time.

Any ideas?

Thanks

It's Possible..

Some GPSr's go into sleep mode when initially turned off. This shortens the time it takes the unit to reboot but it still draws battery power. You must hold the power switch for a few seconds to completely power it down. I've never owned a 660 so I'm not sure if that unit has this feature.

You say the battery discharges in a short period of time. How long does it actually take? If it's only a few minutes, then there is something else going on.

I think the 6x0 series arrived before Garmin introduced the sleep mode. I can see two possibilities if this is correct:

1) the replacement battery is defective. I've never read of this being a problem but it could be a possibility. The original battery finally died which for a device of this age is expected, then the new replacement battery arrived defective. A test would be to try yet another new battery.

2) internally in the 660, either the charging circuitry is not allowing the battery to be fully charged, or the 660 has components that are drawing very much more than expected currents. If either is the problem, consider retiring the device.

Just to be sure it's not something more common, where was the replacement battery purchased ( users here report great results with Batteryship, NewPower99, etc.) and how is the 660 being charged and confirmed that the battery is charged long enough to be fully charged?

Upgrade

I see a lot of people struggling with these old units. At some point, we all have to part ways with old technology which becomes hopelessly outdated. Frankly, the Nuvi 660 is ancient and I wouldn't even bother with parts or troubleshooting. The new Garmin DriveSmart units are much, much more advanced and have come a very long way since then. In fact, many don't realize that they're missing out considerably on a multitude of useful navigation features and driving aids that weren't even considered back then. It would be like comparing the original iPhone with the iPhone X.

A higher capacity battery

A higher capacity battery can be purchased and installed. I did it a few years ago, and it's still hanging in there with great charge.... Sure-- it's Showing it's age, but Map Updates still install on SD card... I used it on trip to CALIF last month... Sure, we now have 2689LMT's in our cars, but I'll run my 660 until it totally stops...

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!
